Solemnity of Christ the King

Today marks the last Sunday of Ordinary Time, liturgically known as Christ the King.
Todays solemnity is the culmination of the entire liturgical year. In the past few weeks
the readings have challenged us to look at the way we use the gifts that God so generous-
ly bestows. It is in the recognition and use of these gifts that we come to share the great
bounty of the eternal kingdom. We are called by this weeks Gospel to remember that Jesus is the
Forgiving King who welcomes repentant sinners in his kingdom. May our words echo the sentiment
of the repentant criminal, Jesus remember me when you come into your Kingdom. The end of the
liturgical year reminds us that we are indeed a people who wait for Christ the King, and we live with
hope for this life and the life of the world to come.

Christ, the Unconventional King Today we celebrate the Solemnity of Our

Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. What a magnificent title for the God
who created us and loves us to the end. Of course, Christ is the most unconven-
tional king. Instead of being born in a palace, he was born among the animals in
a manger. Instead of the security of soldiers and guards, he was accompanied by
twelve simple men. Instead of being crowned with gold and jewels, he was
crowned with thorns. And, as todays Gospel reminds us, he did not want his face etched on coins or
framed on walls, but instead wanted to be seen in the faces of those most in need. While Christs
kingship is unconventional, his reign over us is effective as he lovingly shepherds us towards the
kingdom. On Mission for The Church Alive! invites us to seek new and, at times, unconventional
ways to reach out to our sisters and brothers and strengthen our relationships with each other and with
our Lord and King. As Christ reigns in our hearts and in the world, may he shepherd us as we work to
fulfill his mission of love. Visit onmissionchurchalive.org to learn more and to stay informed.

Immaculate Conception of MaryDec. 8th

The doctrine of the Immaculate Conception declares that Mary was conceived without sin in the womb of her
mother. As the bearer of Christ, we recognize her unique role in salvation history and designated special mo-
ments during which we honor her as a model disciple. On May 13, 1846, the Catholic bishops of the United
States, who were gathered for the Sixth Provincial Council of Baltimore, adopted a decree by which they
chose the Blessed Virgin Mary, conceived without sin, as Patroness of the United States. This is a Holy Day
of Obligation. St. Damien Mass Schedule on Friday, December 8th is 9:00am & 7:00pm

St. Damien ARCM will hold their annual Christmas Party on Monday, December 4th at Father Ab-
bate Hall for members who made a reservation. Festivities will begin at 6:30pm. Members
are reminded to bring nonperishable items for the Food Bank to receive an additional door
prize ticket. Reservation forms with payment must be received by Cindy Patterson before
Thursday, November 30th. December Social will be Rose Bosdosh, Nancy Sinko, Kim
McLaughlan, Jane Neidermeyer, Diane Anthony and the Officers.

Keep Christ in ChristmasThroughout the weeks leading up to Christmas or until sold out, the
Knights of Columbus will be selling religious Christmas cards in Fr. Leger Hall before and after week-
end Masses. Please purchase and use religious cards and help promote the true meaning of Christmas
the birth of Christ. If you have any questions, contact Chuck Brooks at 724-255-2744.
