WHAT:
SouthStreetHeadhouseDistrictwillhosttheDiadelosMuertos(DayoftheDead)FestivalandParade.Children
andadultswillcomeincostumeandsharefood,art,musicandfunwiththeirextendedcommunity,bothliving
anddead.Whilewaitingparticipantswillpayhomagetodeceasedfamilymembersandfriendsbywritinga
chalkmessageinfrontofthespeciallycreatedofrenda,oraltarofferingupgiftstothedead.Theparadewill
featurespectaculargiantpuppets,dancingskeletons,traditionalMexicanmusic,strollingcostumedspiritsanda
funeralhearse(providedcourtesyofMcGuinnessFuneralHome).Additionally,participantscanenjoyface
painting,artdemonstrationswithJoelGarciafromtheEyesGallery,FridoKahlolookalikecontesthostedbythe
EyesGallery,skulltilemaking,andfoodanddrinkfromsixfoodtrucks.Allfestivalactivitieswilltakeplaceon
the400block,whichwillbeclosedtotraffic.

WHY:
Comingbackafteratwelveyearhiatus,thispopularcelebrationreturnstohonordepartedlovedoneswhile
celebratingthecircleoflife.Afteralltheseyears,weareproudtobringthisbelovedfestivalandparadebackto
Philadelphia,saidExecutiveDirectorMichaelHarris.Itwillbeadaytocelebratethosewehavelost,
contemplateourexistenceandreaffirmourtieswithourancestors.
