NICU REVAMPING

PROJECT
MAROOF INTERNATIONAL HOSPITAL
PREPARED BY: DANYAL AHMED (PROJECT MANAGER)
SWOT ANALYSIS OF NICU AT MIH

Strengths
Central location of MIH
Well established gyne department, and best gynecologist in town are the part of the team
More than 80 panels on board
2 Incubators, 4 phototherapic units, 01 monitor
Top class in house pediatricians
Belief of costumers on what we offer
SWOT ANALYSIS OF NICU AT MIH (CONTI..)

Weaknesses
Only one Peads MO is present to cover whole hospital in a shift where he has to see the
NICU, ER, Peads IPD and most importantly he has to be present at OT to see the condition of
new born baby
No proper location allocated to accommodate additional facilities
Lack of key nursing staff
NO arrangements for the following cases are referred to other hospitals
1. Preterm Babies (unavailability of Surfactant, Ventilator and CPAP )
2. RDS new born (Unavailability of Vent and Surfactant treatment)
3. Birth Asphyxia ()
4. Congenital Heart Disease (Treatment not available in Pakistan but usually referred to AFIC)
SWOT ANALYSIS OF NICU AT MIH (CONTI..)

Opportunities
Presence of a huge gap in the market in the field of NICU
Trust of the costumers
Available space and resources to revamp and establish a new NICU
The decline of the popularity of the competitors in the market
New technologies
Availability of refurbished equipment in the market in low price in comparison to buy new
SWOT ANALYSIS OF NICU AT MIH (CONTI..)

Threats
New hospitals and small medical units in town
Pricing
Shortage of Peads nursing staff
High prices of the new equipment
Unpleasant events in the recent past
WHY WE NEED TO THE NICU

On an average we are referring almost 12 patients to other hospitals on weekly basis,

retaining such cases can give us a greater revenue
This can increase the business of the Gynecology department as well
One day peads vent charges in other private hospitals are almost 45,000/- per days which
indicate a short payback period if we invest in this field
MIH would be able to retain its own patient and would also be able to welcome the
referrals from other hospitals and medical units
OBJECTIVES

Increase number of beds

Accept the external referrals and Transport program
Breastfeeding support/lactation management services
Providing additional facilities
Ventilators, phototherapic units, warmers and baby cots

Proper sitting area for consultants and workstation for Nursing

State of the art interior design with proper hygienic environment
AREAS TO ADDRESS

1.Location
2.Resources
3.Staffing
LOCATION

At the moment, the NICU is present adjacent to Labor room which can accommodate 5
beds.
There are two new location proposed for establishing the new NICU
Old waiting room for CATH Lab/ CCU patients
Area allocated for Gyne Operation Theater
LOCATION (CONTI..)

The most suitable area for establishing new NICU can be the area allocated for Gyne OT
Reasons
1. Near to Labor room
2. Secured entrance
3. Enough space
4. All the oxygen and gasses supplies available
5. No major changes required to modify the area as per requirement
6. All the objective can be achieved
