Teaching Practice Task 3: Peer Observation

Objective: You will identify good teaching and learning strategies. You will note teaching
strategies that your peer used that you consider very useful and you would want to use.
This strategy can deal with the use of materials and technology, the review of prior
learning, the motivation of the children, the presentation of the materials, the
appropriateness of the practice activities, classroom management strategies, timing
strategies, reviewing the lesson, general assessment of the learning. You should observe
for 20 minutes.

Teaching characteristic Comments

1. Organization Resources and materials were planned and used

Appropriate organization of content. Planning the use of
resources and materials.
appropriately within the lesson. This is because, the
student teacher prepared all of the resources that
students used before the lesson starts. Therefore, all of
the materials and resources were used matched the
learning outcome and the goal of the lesson (Identify
different types of weather). In addition, the student
teacher had an appropriate organization of content due to
the effective structure of the lesson.

2. Presentation Student teachers presenting skills was efficient and clear.

Clear introduction, continuity with other sessions and
students knowledge. Clarity of aims and objectives.
Clarity of presentation and organization. Appropriate pace
and timing. Attempts to respond to student needs.
Attitude to students (manner, style). Summary and
reference to future work.
In which, first the ST clearly announced the goal and aim
of the lesson to the students. Next, students prior
knowledge was reviewed by displaying climate pictures on
the board and students had to call out the climate name.
Behavior strategies such as counting down 5 4 3 2 1 was
applied in order to control students behavior.
3. Teaching approach and aids
Choice of teaching/learning approach and its relevance to
learner group. Methods used to check/evaluate learning.
Choice and use of teaching activities. Effective use of
question and answer. Encouragement of student
interaction.
4. Student response
Level of participation. Level of attention and interest.
General class atmosphere.
5. General observations
Appropriate choice of teaching and learning. To elaborate,
creating poster about severe weather was the activity
held throughout the lesson. Although, creativity could be
applied within such topic in order to ensure students
excitement and activeness exist. For example, providing
the students with concrete materials in order to create
their chosen weather and make them present it in the
classroom instead of writing about it. In addition, close-
ended questions was the method used to check students
understanding. In my opinion, I think that asking students
open ended questions would have been better in order to
make students thinking level move a step higher. Finally,
throughout this lesson students were interacting with
each other while completing their posters.
Students actively participated along with the student
teacher. In addition, the students teacher had a great
method while introducing the different types of weather
by playing the sound of that specific weather. In such way,
she ensured that students excitement and interest exists
within her lesson.
Overall, I think that the student teacher taught this lesson
appropriately as a variety of positive reinforcement was
applied. Al though, I would recommend her to focus and
enhance her classroom behavior system since some of the
students were misbehaving and werent given warnings
and consequences behind their negative behavior.
