Yuletide

Yuletide is a 12 day celebration of the winter solstice developed before christianity. It was

named after HJOL, the old norse term for wheel. This represents when the wheel, the year, has

reached its lowest point and is ready to begin again. Yule is the time at which the gods and

goddesses are closest to midgard. These deities are known as Yule-Beings, Odin being Jlnir, the

Yule One. During this time the monsters of norse legend return to our world. Draugr, the dead,

return to feast on the living, and other creatures such as elves and trolls must be either warded

away or invited into homes for friendship and peace.

The Wild Hunt also takes place at this time. The participants in the Wild Hunt were of a

spectral nature. Their leader being Odin, riding to battle upon his eight-legged steed Sleipnir. The

spectral hunters are not safe to approach. As such food and drink are left out to them, and in

return the people are blessed.

There are traditions observed during Yuletide, such as swearing oaths on a hallowed boar,

the totem animal of Freya. Festivals are held with dancing and the burning of sun wheels. The

Yule log is also burnt throughout the longest night of the year, some would use long burning

candles instead. The 12 days are spent baking food stuffs and making straw sacred animals

representing gods.

When Christianity showed up Yuletide traditions were, to put it bluntly, stolen. Many

scholars of christianity can attest that Jesus was not born on december 25th, this date was simply

stolen from Yule along with the 12 days of Christmas. Christmas took many traditions from

pagan nations when it came to be, Romans, Egyptians, yet Christmas lies during Yule. Which

means, the time of Yule is a time to celebrate the traditions of religions long dead.
