InSite to LOGIQ
Purpose This document describes the reasons for InSite, the hardware and software
needed to make it happen, how to connect and configure two modem types,
T
and how to enable InSite Access to the LOGIQ 400, 500 and 700.

The InSite Strategy

The InSite strategy is to see if a customers problem can be solved quickly with
a phone call. The person who answers at the GE Service Support Center has
experience, an information data base, Systems Engineers and Applications
Specialists available to help fix the problem. If discussion and diagnostics show
a particular part to be at fault, InSite can recommend the part and alert the Field
Engineer. If operator technique is at fault, the customer can be trained.

Access Protocol
At the customers request, InSite gains access to the unit via a modem
connection. Unauthorized access is prevented by an encrypted password. While
connected, the machines monitor displays an informative message about that
connection. The site can interrupt the connection by disabling the InSite Access
Enable on the machine or by turning the power OFF.

Data Transmission
The modem connection enables the transfer of computer files. Configuration
data, error logs, keystroke touch logs, system parameter settings can be
transferred through the SERVICE port by the modem to the InSite workstation.
Eventually executable files could be downloaded from InSite.

Image Transmission
Images can be transferred to InSite. This has been accomplished with data
compression and Xmodem1K software. Patient anonymity will be protected.

System Operation
If the 700 system was in or enters Service or Calcs mode when INSITE is
activated, the system will reboot after INSITE is deactivated. This is a safety
precaution to prevent software from working incorrectly.

message estimates how much longer it will take to complete the transfer.

Insite Unavailable: Diags Active (700)

Once InSite is connected, [Code I] will not work to toggle InSite or diagnostic
PC access. Use the EXIT in the menu bar of the diagnostic software to put the
system back into applications. Then you may prep the machine for InSite
access with [Code I] before they connect.

Please notice that you may use the items in the 700 service menu bar without
losing the applications mode; it is selecting 700 Diagnostics in the menu bar that
puts the machine into Disruptive service mode. It is a proper exit that clears it.

Definitions
CCITT Consultative Committee for International Telephone and Telegraph is an
organization that sets worldwide voice and data communications standards.
CTS Serial control signal from the DCE that stands for Clear To Send.
DICOM Digital Imaging and COmmunication in Medicine is an image format standard which
the industry is trying to standardize to replace the ACR (American College of
Radiology) NEMA standard. It is designed with PACs, Ethernet, networking type
applications in mind so that image formats between modalities and suppliers would
be transferrable on electronic networks.
DSR Serial control signal from the DCE that stands for Data Set Ready.
DCE Data Communications Equipment usually refers to a modem.
DTE Data Terminal Equipment is an EIA term that refers to a digital device designed
or configured to provide data, such as a computer or peripheral. RS232 signals
move in one prescribed direction relative to the DCE or DTE. The serial
interfaces on the bulkhead are configured as DTE.
EIA Electronic Industries Association is a US government department that provides
the latest electronic related standards for engineers and manufacturers.
ISDN Integrated Services Digital Network is a service that phone companies provide
that transfers five times more data than traditional analog phone lines.
modem Device used to transmit digital information across phone lines. It is an
abbreviation for ModulatorDemodulator.
RXD Serial data from the DCE to the DTE that stands for Received Data. It is input to
the MC from a peripheral or modem.
TXD Transmitted Data, serial data from the DTE to DCE. In this system it is serial
data from the MC via PIA to a peripheral or modem.
V.32 A CCITT standard for 4800 and 9600 baud modem communications. V.32
modems transfer data at 9600 bps unless phone line quality is bad. Until it
improves, the modem transfers at 4800 bps.
V.32bis A CCITT standard for modem communications that extends the V.32 connection
rate range in the following steps: 4800, 7200, 9600, 12 k, and 14.4 k bps. These
modems fall back one speed at a time as phone line quality worsens, or up one
as it improves.
V.34 A CCITT standard for modem communications that can transfer data up to 28.8
(or 33.6 kbps with certain software and hardware compatibilities). However most
phone lines make it rarely possible to reach these speeds.
V.42 A CCITT standard for modem communications that improves throughput by
correcting errors and compressing data that is uncompressed.
V.Everything A CCITT standard for modem communications that improves throughput by
adapting to the modem to which it connects and using optimal protocols.
V.Everything56k A CCITT standard for modem communications that improves throughput by
adapting to the modem (56k or less) to which it connects and using optimal
protocols.
