Reading Skills for Assignment


1,Main idea:
Most important point being made or is important information that tells
more about the overall idea of paragraph or section
Topic:Subject of the a text / what the text is about
2.Implied main idea:
The Implied Main Idea is one that is NOT clearly stated in any one
sentence in a passage. It is only suggested or inferred by the supporting
details. The author doesn't state it directly.
3,Scanning:
Scanning is a reading technique to be used when you want to find
specific information quickly. Scanning you have a question in your mind
and you read passage only to find answer, ignoring unrelated
information.
Skimming;
Skimming refers to the process of reading only main idea with in
passage to get an overall impression of the content of a reading selection
How to skimming:
-Read the title
-Read the introduction or the first paragraph
-Read the first sentences of every other paragraph
-Read any heading and sub heading

4. Specific details:
Specific details are exact example and reference that help to explain the
answer, if these word question: who, what, when, why and how will
asked you about the text you can get answer the specific information.
.5. Signal Words:-

Signal words show how the text is organized, the words if, when and while can
connect two things that happen at the same time before after later and tell us when
things happen

6.Purpose of writing:
Authors always have a reason for writing. Their purpose may be to
inform the reader,to persuade the reader of something,to help and advise
the reader, or perhaps to entertain the reader
7. Context :
Contex makes understanding possible in a story you are writing for an
audience and they need to understand whats going on
Writing is not speech transfer to page its more complex and needs more
details for it to be understood.
8. Similar:
Having a resemblance in appearance, character, or quantity, without
being identical.
Example synonyms are similars : dog = pooch, quick = fast = speed

9.Opposite:
a person or thing that is totally different from or the reverse of someone
or something else. Situated on the other or further side when seen from a
specified or implicit viewpoint; facing

Fast slow.
Old young .
New Old
10. Comprehension fluency:
Reading comprehension is the ability to read text, process it, and
understand its meaning or is the ability to understand and get meaning
from spoken and written language.
11.fluence:
Fluence is the ability to read a text accurately, quickly and with
expression. Fluecing is important because it provides abridge between
word recognition and comprehension.
12.Giving opinion
Expression of asking and giving opinion. Our opinion about some thing

Is what we think or believe about it. In communication sometimes we
need someones opinion to overcome our problem since we feel difficult
to solve

13. Reference:-

We use reference words instead of repeating words and phrases common reference
words include words such as it, them, this, these ones etc. when you see these
words look in the sentences nearby to find what they refer to.

14. Ignoring Unknown words:-

We dont need to know the meaning of every word to understand what you read,
we must put our dictionaries away, when we come to words we dont know, so we
must ignore them and keep our reading.

Previewing and predicting:-

One way to enter a text is to preview titles, subtitles, visuals, and other text
features and make a prediction about the topic and purpose of the text. The
Previewing and Predicting process will lead students through a series of questions
that will help them make an accurate prediction. These predictions help students
think about what they already know about the topic. The ability to access prior
knowledge helps students develop a critical schema (or cognitive map) that they
can use to increase their comprehension
