1.CourseObjectives

Thepurposeofthiscourseistohelpyoubecomeliterateinfinancialaccountingtheprimary
languageofbusiness.Bytheendofthiscoursestudentsshouldbeableto(1)understandhow
businesstransactionsaffectfinancialreportingandcashflows;(2)readandcriticallyevaluate
financialstatements,and(3)useaccountinginformationtomakebusinessdecisions.Bymastering
theselearningoutcomesyouwillbegintostructureyourthoughtsinfinancialtermswhichwillhelp
easeyourtransitionintothefinancialcommunity.

HomeworkwillbehandledbymyBusinessCourse.Iwillemailyouwithfurtherinstructions
regardingthehomeworkmanagementsystem.

3.2Exams
Twoexamswillbegiveninclass.AmidtermexamonSeptember25andafinalonOctober18.The
examswillcoverreadings,lectures,homework,andcases.Bothexamsareclosedbook/notes.The
finaliscumulative.

4.CourseCommunication

Informationwillbemadeavailabletoallstudentsinclassandthroughemail.Communicationsoutsideof
classandofficehourswillrelyheavilyonemail.Iwilltrytorespondtoallreasonableemailsbytheendof
thenextacademicday.Donotexpectresponsesonweekendsorholidays.Ifyouemailmeaquestionand
donothearbackwithinthenextacademicday,pleasecheckwithmetomakesureIreceivedyour
message.
