Story behind the interview:
Our guest was MOHAMMAD ISMAIL from Yemen. He
is the co-owner of the Arabian restaurant which is in the
old caf in our campus. Regarding the ethnic relations
interview we asked him some question about his journey
from Yemen to Malaysia. We also tried to know his
thinking about Malaysian society and culture and the
reason why he is in Malaysia. He was very supportive to
us.

We shoot the whole video in our campus. To be specific


beside block B. it was a beautiful weather at that time.
We used a mobile camera for the video. During the
interview season there was too much wind. Because of
that we replace the audio with the recorded version.

These interview is a result of our hard work. Every one


of our group member tried their best to make the
interview part
Successful.
The conversation part of the interview written below:

Q .What is the perception about Malaysia?


Asn: When I listen about Malaysia 1st think come to my
mind that its a good place for education and business.
Q. How you came into Malaysia?
Ans: I came here by Yemeni airlines. I came directly
from Yemen to Malaysia .there was two transits on the
way, one was in Saudi Arabia and another one was in
India.
Q. What do you do here?
Ans: I do business here. Because I think doing business
is better here.
Q. How you got the information about your business?
Ans: I got the information from my brother. He told me
that business is good here. He also do business here and
I observed what he did here.
Q. How do you adopt into the Malaysian society?
Ans: They are very helpful and friendly. They are not
rude with the foreigners.
Q. Why did you chose Malaysia?
Ans: its because of business. Doing business is better
here than any other country. So that I chose Malaysia.
Q. Do you know how many races here in Malaysia?
Ans: I think there is a lot of races here. For example
Muslim, Kristian, Buddha etc.
Q. By looking at them can you recognize there races?
Ans: No, I cant. Its not possible to recognize someones
races only by looking at them. I have to communicate
with them to understand there races.
Q. What do you think about the integration here in
Malaysia?
Ans: I think its good. They respect each others culture.
Q. From all the races in Malaysia, which one attract you
most in terms of art and culture?
Ans: Chinese ethnic group attract me the most because
during the Chinese New Year they enjoy a lot by doing
different dances like the dragon dance and its very
colourful.
Q. How they can live peacefully with each other while
the have different races?
Ans: I think everyone respect each other and there
culture also. So that they can live peacefully for years
and years.
Q. Do you think Malaysia will able to hold this peace for
a very long time?
Ans: yes, I think they can. As long as they keep
respecting each other they will be able to maintain this
peaceful situation.
Q. Whats your opinion about the education system of
Malaysia?
Ans: Education system in Malaysia is very good. Almost
everyone is educated here. So its easy for us to
communicate with them. Their education system is world
class.
Q. Do you know that the education system in Malaysia
is based on the ethnic group?
Ans: No, I dont have any idea about that.
Q. Do you want your children to study in Malaysia?
Ans: Sure, its a good place for education and a peaceful
place as well.
Q. Have you tried any traditional food here?
Ans: Yes I tried. I tried a food called Nasi lemak. It
was very good and it wasnt that sweet or sour.
Q. How much it cost you?
Ans: The price was around 8-10 ringgit and its depend
on the place.
Q. do you think the price is reasonable?
Ans: Yes I do.
Q. What are the challenges you are facing in Malaysia?
Ans: Mainly the weather. The weather is very hot here.
Also the transportation is a very big problem here. If you
want to go outside, you have to rent a car every time
otherwise you have to take a bus which takes more time
for travelling.
Q. How long you will stay here?
Ans: I think as long as the business runs good here I will
stay here.

As conclusion:
We didnt add or remove anything from the interview
part except some parts which we used to make the
question easier for him. The main contain is unchanged.

As a conclusion of the interview we can say that our


guest Mohammad Ismail came to Malaysia because he
thinks that business is better here than his country. He
also got some information about Malaysia from his
brother who is doing business here also. His thinking
about Malaysia is that its a peaceful country. People
here are very helpful and friendly. As long his business
runs well here he would like to stay in Malaysia.
