Management Plan

Attention-getting procedures:
Record different means of getting the entire classs attention when they are engaged in an activity:
Band/Choir cut-off(s)
Sayings
o Peanut butter Jelly time
o Crew Aye Aye Captain

Question-answering procedures:
What expectations will you have when students are asking or answering questions?
Students will be asked to raise their hands when they have a question.
Students will be known that they are expected to participate in class and will therefore have
an expectation to answer questions throughout the lessons.
If students are not answering questions over a period of time:
o Popsicle sticks
o Random Name Generator
o I will also use a technique of asking the same question to multiple students so that
they become more confident in their answers throughout the lessons and eventually
the time I am with them.
When answering questions, students will be free to make an error, in which case I will
guide the discussion and talk about why someone may think differently.
Encourage students to make mistakes, and praise their confidence to answer

Transition Procedures:
What routines will you establish around the
Bell Schedule:
Band Students:
Students will be given directions to pack up (instruments, music and folders) 5 minutes
before the bell ensuring they are packing up properly and efficiently
Choir Students:
Students will be given directions to pack up their music and put away their folders 3
minutes before the bell
Percussion:
Students will be given directions to pack up (practice pads/sticks, music and folders) 3

Start of class:
All classes will gather their instruments, music/folders and sit in their assigned seats and
look at the board for directions to either warm-up or wait for further instruction

End of class:
Students will wait for my dismissal; the bell will not dismiss the students they will be
dismissed 5 minutes before the end of class to allow them time to pack up
I will be sure to plan for a couple of extra minutes at the end of class, but sometimes I will
go right to the bell. I will not go over the bell. Students will be asked to put chairs in the
rows as they were at the beginning of class.

End of day:
Students are asked to leave the room as neat and tidy as they came into it.
The last class will be asked to move equipment as necessary.

Distribution of materials:
Students will be expected to pick up or bring their materials (music, pencil and folders) to
the classroom, aside from assignments, worksheets. Students will be asked to help my hand
out assignments, music and worksheets whenever I see fit. Students will not hand out test
or quiz marks.

Accessing of equipment:
Students will have opportunities at the beginning of the class to get the equipment required
for the activity. If there is additional equipment needed, students may get it at the end of
my instructions.

Classroom clean up:

Students will be sure to leave the classroom clean folders are put away, pencils are in the
folders and nothing is on the floor. I will be sure to make it part of my daily routines to
check under their chairs and the floor for any garbage they may have.

Daily and Safety Procedures:

What will you expect of your students and yourself with regard to:
Late arrivals:
Students will bring a late slip to me from the office. They will enter my classroom quietly
and quietly set up.
Absences:
Students or parents are expected to report absences. If students have missed an assignment,
it will be provided in a box in the classroom. If there were notes, they will be expected to
copy notes from a peer. They will also be expected to practice what has been rehearsed on
their own time.

Use of cell phones and other communications technology:

Cell phones are not to be used within the class. Students will know the routine of placing
their cellphones in a shoe-holder placed in the classroom at the beginning of class.

Bathroom breaks:
Students will be expected to write their name on the board so that I can keep track of who
is gone. They will erase their name when they return quietly. Only one student at a time
will be allowed to leave the classroom. If this system does not work, a bathroom pass will
be available upon request.

Student telephone calls to home:

If a student needs to call home, they will be allowed to do so when the time permits. This
will usually be near the end of the class, unless it is necessary for the student to call
immediately.

Individual seatwork:
Students will be expected to do their own work when instructed, primarily when quizzes
and theory are involved.

Late homework or assignments:

Students will be expected to hand in assignments on time, specifically their practice logs.
If students have assignments outstanding for more than a week, they will stay in during
lunch to work on the assignment/practice time. The exception to this will be if students
were sick or away.

Missing homework or assignments:

Students will be expected to be in charge of their own assignments and quizzes. After each
due date of an assignment, I will write on the board who is missing homework or
assignments for handing in.

Homework reminders:
I will remind students of upcoming due dates and will allow students plenty of time to
complete the assignments, both in class and at home. The Remind app will be a great
asset in this regard.

Student illness or injury:

If a student is ill at school, I will give them the option of staying or going home, if they
have a parent or guardian there for them. They will check out at the office.

Fire drills:
Students are expected to remain calm and line up in order to get to the nearest exit quickly
and safely. Once outside on the field they are expected to stand in single file rows as
attendance is taken. Once I have determined the status of the class, I will hold up the
appropriate card as an indication to the admin.

Lockdowns:
Students are to quietly go upstairs to our practice rooms. As they do so, I will lock the door
and close the window coverings. Students are expected to remain quiet for as long as the
lockdown is in place. I will be in a practice room with the students to ensure this. As I lock
the door, I will look for any students that I are in the hallway and take them into my
classroom.
