UCLA Band Day MARK YOUR

CALENDARS
Despite the sweltering 90 degree weather, students enthusiastically
disembarked the buses to get into sectionals with the UCLA and invited high Mondays
school bandsmembers. This would mark the start of an event many of the
Rehearsal
students had been anticipating with excitement (some ever since last years

UCLA Band Day!).
After a productive practice session for the half-time show where the
Oct. 13
bands would perform, some of the Aztec band members took advantage of
the situation and Dr. Bartletts Recital

collected the

spot with picnic tables for the students to eat at, which was especially
refreshing for the sweaty students after a couple of hours of practicing on the
burning asphalt. The bandsmen enjoyed a delicious lunch of professionally Oct. 21

Shortly after eating, the students marched over to the Rose Bowl to watch the intriguing
football game of UCLA versus Stanford. Once given permission, many of the band members
immediately bought the frozen lemonade that numerous students had spoken highly of ever since
the previous UCLA Band Day.
Time flew by, and before they knew it, the students were performing on the field with the
other bands, surrounded by thousands of cheering people, whether they were UCLA or Stanford
fans.
Although the amount of time spent actually playing in the Rose Bowl was very short, the
12 hours spent dedicated to UCLA Band Day were a perfect opportunity for the students to
experience playing in front of an enormous amount of people and to interact with college
students as well as peers from other high schools.

CCBA Parade
Aztec band members
recently performed at a parade
on October 8 for the Chinese
Consolidated Benevolent
Association. Although it was a
brief parade, students
especially enjoyed walking
around the area. Some bought
delicious treats from a nearby
bakery, while many took
pictures around the area.
After the parade, the
band members were pleasantly
surprised to see that the hosts
had benevolently provided
water and savory baked cha
siu baos. Many students had
seconds, and even thirds, of
the scrumptious, golden-
brown buns.
