About St. Cecilia

St. Cecilia is the Patron Saint of Music and one of the most famous of the
Roman martyrs.

Despite her vow of virginity, she was forced by her parents to marry a
pagan nobleman named Valerian. During the wedding, Cecilia sat apart
singing to God in her heart, and for that she was later declared the saint
of musicians.

Cecilia told her husband that an angel was watching over her and that
she had made a promise of virginity to God. He said he would respect her
virginity if he could also see the angel. After being baptized he saw the
angel and was converted to Christianity, his brother was also converted
by the angel.

Her martyrdom followed that of her husband Valerian and his brother.
Cecilia was struck three times on the neck with a sword; she lived for
three days before dying.
Cecilia was buried and in 1599, her body was found still incorrupt many
years later.

Her feast day is November 22.
