Lesson Plan
Overview and Purpose: The purpose is to teach
students why the sky is blue and why the sunsets are
red.
Teacher Guide
Objectives We will need to know why the sky is blue
and why the sunsets are red. In order to
answer these questions we will need to
know about the visible light spectrum and
how light reaches earth. We will also need
to know why light waves are a form of
energy. Lastly, we will need to know what
happens when light waves encounter
certain materials.
Information -Present the light spectrum

Verification We will know all the key concepts well and
make sure that every student is able to
explain these concepts back to us so that we
know that each and every one of them
knows exactly what they are talking about.

 examples because we have to keep in mind
that every student has different ways of
learning materials and what works for one
student may not work for another student.
Lastly, we will make sure we do individual
group work with our students to see their
knowledge based on the concepts we are
working on.

through an interactive activity.
Define what a spectroscope is and provide
materials for activity.
Provide and understanding of why viewing
at various light sources will reflect different
colors of the visible light spectrum.
Summary Overall, we will have a good understanding,
and be able to demonstrate why the sky is
blue and sunsets red. We will further
provide student with a project that will help
them grasp the concept of how the visible
light spectrum reaches earth. The project
will also help explain why light waves are a
form of energy, and clarify what happens
when light waves encounter different
materials.
