Scheduling system
SSI uses the semester system. In a school year, there will be two semesters with a break in
between, according to the Ministry of Educations school calendar.
Curriculum
SSI offers the Integrated Secondary School Curriculum (KBSM) to its students with the Malay
language being the medium of instruction. Students from Year 7 through Year 9 or the lower
secondary will be studying eight to nine subjects as specified in the national curriculum. Upon
their passing in the Lower Secondary Assessment (PMR/PT3), they will enter Year 10 or the
upper secondary and they will study the Pure Science stream comprising of nine subjects until
Year 11 before sitting for the Malaysian Certificate of Examination (SPM) at the end of their
Year 11 study period (usually in November). Students in the upper secondary have the option to
add one elective subject for the SPM examinations.
The academic time is spread over 35 periods in a week (excluding assemblies and breaks) with
40 minutes for each period. Our students are grouped into classes which are based on their
previous years final examinations results. The purpose of this is for subject teachers to have a
different strategy of approach to these students consisting of various academic achievements so
that we can bring everyone to be up at par with each other.
