To hook the kids, I will start off by popping popcorn. Popcorn is
the perfect item to use to grab their attention and help them focus
Grabber/Hook: on hearing the popcorn popping, watching the popcorn expand,
Smelling the popcorn cooking, touching the popcorn, and finally
eating the popcorn.
1. I will begin by using the five senses educational activity
for the kids to learn about taste, smell, vision, hearing, and
touch. This will go step by step in explaining what each of
the senses are one at a time. Then will finish off with a
multiple-choice activity to assess whether they understand
the topic.
2. After reviewing the lesson, I will split the class into groups
of five. Every individual child will then be named as one
of the five senses.
3. After everyone has been chosen, I will then explain each
experiment step by step. The entire group will participate
but the person with title of whatever sense will get
whatever materials I will be passing out.
4. We will start with sight. I will have each group practice
holding two pencils lengthwise in each hand. I will then
have them close one eye and try to touch the erasers
together and see what happens. Then they will open both
eyes and try that same thing again and see if the outcome
was different. I will them go around the room and have the
Procedure: child who was assigned sight to explain the groups
reaction.
5. Next, we will do sound. For this activity, I will have the
person for sound get blindfolded while the other team
members do different things such as crush paper, clap
hands, or jingle coins in a jar. The will then need to see
how many the person was able to get correct and share
with the class.
6. For the smell activity, I will have all the students close
their eyes and guess the smell of the object that I bring
around. Every object will be in a cup with a label. When I
finish passing it around each group will then be able to
guess if what they smelled was correct.
7. Next students will try taste. For this activity, I plan to use
jelly beans of different flavors and have them guess what
flavor they are tasting.
8. Lastly the students will practice their touch. I will have
different fabric squares for the students to choose from
then their group is to use describing words of what their
fabric felt like.

To assess if the students understood the material I will use a
PowerPoint to show several pictures and ask questioned about
Assessment: those pictures geared toward each sense. As I am doing that
students will be able to circle on their handout which picture best
fits what I am saying.
For my special needs students, I will incorporate the use of abcya
