PLDT to save P7 B from Manpower Cuts

MANILA, Philippines - PLDT Inc. expects to generate over P7 billion in savings from a decision to implement
a manpower reduction program affecting employees involved in information technology (IT) work. We
estimate over P7 billion over a number of years, PLDT chairman and chief executive officer Manuel V.
Pangilinan told reporters. Earlier, Pangilinan said PLDT is implementing a manpower reduction program
which could affect employees involved in IT functions. There are 1,000 employees performing work
related to IT in PLDT. PLDT is in talks with technology giant IBM for the outsourcing of some of the telcos
IT services. We aim to sign the relevant agreements with them (IBM) by the end of June, Pangilinan said.
The manpower reduction program is part of measures being undertaken by the company to cut costs as
it looks to make 2017 a better year in terms of financial results. Apart from the manpower reduction
program, Pangilinan said PLDT is also implementing other measures by cutting expenses related to travel,
seminars, symposia and by imposing a freeze on salary increases. Weve had a freeze on salary increase
for the past year or two. Everybody is pitching in terms of helping out in the opex (operating expenses)
reduction, he said. PLDT has set a recurring core income target of P21.5 billion for this year, to serve as
the new base to raise profitability in the coming years. PLDTs recurring core income reached P5.3 billion
in the first quarter, down 26 percent from P7.2 billion in the same period last year, but on track with the
core income guidance for the year. At the start of 2017, we put a new leadership team in place. This new
team has brought new ideas, ways of working, fresh perspectives and a variety of skill sets and
experiences. Well continue to develop our people, to ensure that were constantly poised to deliver on
innovative growth, Pangilinan said.

I took the article from the internet and it tells something about the PLDT Company

talking about the manpower reduction program. And they thought of this program because

they will save 7billion pesos from reducing the manpower in their company.

brought new ideas, ways of working, fresh perspectives and a variety of skill sets and

experiences. Well continue to develop our people, to ensure that were constantly poised

to deliver on innovative growth, Pangilinan said. There are things to consider of course

when it comes to economy and business management, I think the decision of

implementing the manpower reduction program would have a big role in making the

company efficient in their work. Many clients including us are always complaining of their

services, because I think, being one of the biggest internet service provider in the

Philippines is a big pressure for them.

There are many present issues concern about my topic and I can able to relate it

in HRM by saying that implementing this program also requires the 4 functions of

management to be successful. Before they plan or announce this decision to the public ,
they had their research first of course . They compare many things from the past few

years up to the result of their present work this year. Some of the issues concern about

this are the complains of their clients to their Internet Speed, We lising-family ourselves

are one of their clients and I think I can relate to what other clients say about the PLDT

Company. It is like we have no choice but to choose the PLDT as the Internet Service

Provider for us. And because we chose to apply to their programs , I think we have to be

patient at every occurrence since their company never disappoints me from giving

advance announcement if there are some technical problems with their company.

IV.

The importance of my topic is that because of the money that will be save from

their program , many other government-affiliated departments can benefit from it including

schools and medics.

V.

Well the role of Human Resource Management in this topic was to impose different

organizing methods for the program to be successful. It will help not only thousands of

people but millions , having an organized plan for the future will have a big impact on our

future generations of people and workers.
