QUESTION 1
d) Given vectors A and B in terms of unit vector as: A= 20/-10y+30fc and B= -6/+15/-25fr.
QUESTION 2
i) Linear momentum
ii) Elastic collision
(2 marks)
b) A boy on a blue skateboard moving at a speed of 6 ms"1 eastward collides with a girl
standing on a stationary red skateboard. After the collision, the boy moves in the
direction 25° north of east while the girl moves in the direction that is perpendicular to
direction of the boy's final velocity close to the south of east. If the mass of the boy and
the girl are the same and the collision is perfectly elastic,
i) sketch a diagram showing the positions and direction of motion of the boy and
the girl before and after collision.
(2 marks)
ii) determine the final speed of the boy and the girl on their skateboards.
(6 marks)
QUESTION 3
a) Explain the meaning and the application of the energy conservation concept and work-
energy theorem.
(4 marks)
b) The force acting on the object is given by Fx =4.5JC + 3 where x in meter and Fx in
Newton. How much work is done to move the object from x = 2 m t o x = 6 m .

a) A 250 kg box is placed on an adjustable inclined plane. If the box slides down the
incline with an acceleration of 0.7 ms"2 when the angle is 25°, then what should the
incline angle be in order for the box to slide down the plane at constant speed.
(8 marks)
b) A worker on a scaffold on a billboard throws a ball straight up. The ball has an initial
velocity of 11.2 ms"1 when it leaves his hand at the top of the billboard.
i) What is the maximum height the ball reaches relative to the top of the billboard?
(2 marks)
QUESTION 6
a) Figure 3 shows a box attached to two cords. Neglect the mass of the cords, and
assume that the angle 6 is 35° and the mass m is 150 kg.

b) Figure 4 shows a house at the bottom of a hill. A tank, placed at the top of the hill
feeds the house with water through a pipe that is 90 m long along the slope that is 60°
to the horizontal. If the water in the tank is 4.0 m deep, determine the water gauge
pressure at the house.

QUESTION 8
a) A 0.10 kg of ice at -5 °C is added into a copper can (C = 150 JK"1) containing 1500 cm3
of water initially at 27 °C. By avoiding heat absorbed from the surroundings, find the
equilibrium temperature of the system. {cwater= 4190 Jkg"1K"1, cice = 2220 Jkg"1K"1 and
