Reflection

Due to my husbands job being in Germany and recently having a son, I am currently

focusing on school and not employed. For this reason, I evaluated my current community

because a Workplace Assessment would not apply to my situation. After investigating the social,

emotional, physical, intellectual, spiritual, and nutritional benefits I was impressed by how many

options there are. However, one way that the community could improve is by advertising these

resources. I had to look for quite a while to find information on these specific programs. If more

community members were aware of and utilized these options it would improve the overall

health.

There are many ways that the Grafenwoehr Military Community is successful. One of the

most important benefits is that nearly 100% of individuals have health care coverage. This is

extremely important to financial, physical, and mental health (Sommers et al, 2017).

Furthermore, the residents have access to wellness programs, nutrition education, and affordable

food in the area. Considering this community is comprised of adults with demanding jobs,

children, and retirees this is a significant benefit. Access to these resources helps prevent major

health problems and encourage a healthy lifestyles (Community nutrition information, 2010). In

addition, community leaders make it a point to try to prevent and manage diseases through

screenings and treatment. Overall, Grafenwoehr has many benefits that promote a healthy

lifestyle for residents.

After completing this assessment if my community I know I can use it to make a

difference. First, I want to spread the word about all of the programs we have access to. This can

just be from word of mouth or creating advertising campaigns. Next, I want to take advantage of

these benefits myself, because one person can make a difference. If I have the knowledge and

skills then I can pass them along. Finally, I want to offer my time to these programs. The military

community relies heavily on volunteers. I can help others receive the education and support they

need to lead a healthier lifestyle. Grafenwoehr, Germany has all the parts necessary for a healthy

community, now it is just making residents aware.
