Want to plant a tree? Hawaii Technology Academy, the State of Hawaii and Kanu
Hawaii are looking to plant 1 Million Trees of Aloha in Hawaii by October 2010.
HTA is hoping to plant 100+ Native Trees of Hawaii to boost our local flora and
fauna by the start of Children & Youth month, Oct.2010.

WANT TO PLANT A TREE?

HTA is requesting that all Hawaiian History students plant a tree; however
HTA would like to encourage all HTA students to plant trees. HTA will
provide the trees and all you have to do is plant your tree and turn in a form
giving us information about your tree, as well as a photo of you planting the
tree. If interested please contact Mrs. Perez: csteele@hawaiitechacademy.org

• A single tree absorbs one ton of carbon dioxide in its lifetime. That’s a
lot less CO2 in our precious atmosphere!
• Trees’ roots prevent soil erosion, which keeps good organic material from washing away in the rain. They also
provide leaves yearly, which can be used for valuable compost.
• Many animals are taking a hit because we are chopping down so many trees, which are their prime source for
habitat. By planting a tree you provide animals habitat.
• Trees, with their complex root systems, absorb water and hold soil in, which helps reduce the effect of flooding.

COUNSELING CORNER
THE LOREM IPSUMS SPRING 2012
Stress Management

Stress is a normal part of life, but it can become too much at times.
What is Stress?Stress is our body’s physical and emotional reaction to
events that frighten, irritate, confuse, endanger, or excite us and place
demands on the body. Stress can be caused by events that are pleasing
as well as events that create crisis in our lives. Change causes stress—good change or bad
change; it does not make a difference. When change occurs we usually experience some level of
stress. For example, a new brother or sister; Doing homework that may be difficult; moving to a
new home or school, planning a party, having family visit, etc.

The good news is that we can control our stress. First, you need to identify the stressor (school
work, moving, packing, etc). Next, think of possible solutions to the problem and lastly, select the
best solution that is most appropriate.

Here are TEN TIPS for controlling your stress!

Breath Deeply! Use breathing exercises to relieve anxiety, depression, irritability, and fatigue.
Take time to think and relax.
Take a break and read a book or play an instrument.
Go for a walk or jog around the house, the beach, or a nearby park.
Listen to music.
Talk with friends, family or a trusted individual about your problems.
Be aware of the foods you eat. Some foods with high fat, sugar, caffeine, salt and additives can
contribute to stress.
Build a support system.
Think outside the box. Finding unconventional solutions are sometimes the best ones.
Laugh often!
