Lesson title: Describing symptoms
Lesson type: teaching vocabulary-communication
Skills: writing and speaking in English
Time allotted: 45
Objectives: by the end of the lesson Ss will be able to
-describe symptoms;
-use words related to symptoms by themselves;
-recognize patients symptoms;

Lesson aims: -improve Ss communication;


-develop Ss vocabulary;
-practice the vocabulary related to symptoms.
Methods and strategies: conversation, communication, exercise.
Grouping and seating: whole-class teaching, individual, group-work, pair-work.
Interactions: T-Ss, Ss-T, Ss-Ss.
Predicted problems and possible solutions:
1.Ss do not understand the oral commands.- the instructions are translated in Romanian.
2.Ss have problems with pronunciation.- T will help and correct them.
3.Ss do not seem to fully understand the instructions.- T checks Ss understanding and explains
them step-by-step what they have to do.
Aids: worksheets, flashcards, blackboard, chalk.

Stages:

1.Warm-up:
-timing: 4
-aim: to create a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere
-procedure: T asks Ss about their mood, who is absent. Ss answer.
-interaction: T-Ss, Ss-T.

2. . Checking homework:
-timing: 4
-aim: to review previous knowledge
-procedure: T asks Ss if they had homework and elicits some Ss to read it. T asks SS about last
lesson and elicits answers.
-interaction: T-Ss, Ss-T.
3. Lead-in:
-timing: 3
-aim: to prepare SS for the new lesson.
-procedure: T tells SS that she has a problem with her voice and she must see the doctor soon
and asks SS to tell her some symptoms in Romanian. Ss answer.
-interaction: T-SS, Ss-T.

4. Presentation
-timing: 7
-aim: to introduce the new lesson.
-procedure: T writes the title on board and announces the lesson objectives. Ss write it in their
notebooks. T shows Ss some images which describe some symptoms. Ss have to match each
image with the correct symptom. T gives the translation for every symptom.
-interaction: T-Ss, Ss-T.

5. Practice
-timing: 20
-aim: to provide opportunity to use recently learnt material
-procedure: A) pair activity: T gives each S a worksheet with some exercises. T explains Ss what
to do and helps them if necessary. T asks some Ss to read the answers after they have finished.
-interaction: T-Ss, Ss-T
B) individual activity: T gives each student a worksheet with some exercises where
they have to match words to make sentences and another exercise where they have to write
the correct question for the given answer. Ss perform the task. T elicits answers.
B) play role activity: T tells Ss that they will play a role play activity: T asks a student
to be the nurse and another to be the patient and they will have make a conversation about
symptoms and diagnosis.
D) listening activity: T gives each student a worksheet and they have to listen
carefully a discussion between a mother of three girls and a nurse related to symptoms.

6. Evaluation

-aim: to evaluate Ss involvement
-procedure: T makes commentaries on SS work and the Ss will receive marks.

8. Assigning the homework

-procedure: T gives Ss homework related to the new lesson.
