You can use this form to apply for Special Consideration for your direct admission application at Victoria University (VU). Please read the
information and instructions below carefully before you complete the details. Please complete the checklist below once you have completed the
details to check that all sections have been completed.

INSTRUCTIONS
You must lodge a 2010 Direct Admission/Supplementary information application form with this form. Please ensure that you make
separate applications for each course and submit them in a A4 sized envelope - not a plastic folder. You can lodge your form in person at a
Student Service Centre or by fax or mail to the address below.

DIRECT ADMISSION SPECIAL CONSIDERATION INFORMATION


Victoria University acknowledges that our applicants come from a diverse range of backgrounds and life circumstances, including socio-
economic, educational, cultural and linguistic, and that these factors may affect your preparation for post-secondary study. These factors are
consistent with those recognised by VU under the VTAC Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS).
You should complete this form if you are applying for a course listed as available via DIRECT ENTRY and wish to apply for special
consideration under one or more of the categories below. You must also satisfy the eligibility requirements, provide appropriate
supporting evidence and satisfy all requirements that form part of a course application.
Direct entry courses are listed in the relevant Course Index. You can find more information about submitting your application in the Advice to
Applicants available from www.vu.edu.au/courses/applying/how-apply.
If you are applying for your course through the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) do not complete this form. To be considered
you need to complete a VTAC Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) application online when you submit your VTAC course application. You
can find more information about SEAS (including the application closing date) from www.vtac.edu.au.

DIRECT ADMISSION SPECIAL CONSIDERATION CATEGORIES

IMPORTANT You should read each category definition and eligibility criteria carefully, and only tick the boxes in Section C of this form for which
you are seeking consideration. Also, you need to complete all the questions and provide all supporting evidence specific to each category under
which you apply.

1. MATURE AGE CONSIDERATION


Apply under this category if you have accumulated relevant experience since leaving school or since meeting tertiary entrance requirements.
You must be able to demonstrate relevant work and/or life experience, and indicate how this is likely to assist you to successfully complete the
course for which you have applied.
To be eligible under this category:
• Higher Education applicants must be 21 years of age or more as of 1 January 2010.
• TAFE applicants must be 18 years of age or more as of 1 January 2010, and have been out of full-time education for at least one
year.

2. NON-ENGLISH SPEAKING BACKGROUND


Apply under this category if you have arrived in Australia from a non-English speaking country in the last ten years, you speak a language other
than English at home, and you can demonstrate that your non-English speaking background has had an adverse impact on your preparation for
post-secondary studies. If you are an Indigenous Australian or deaf or hearing impaired you can also apply under this category.

3. RECOGNITION AS AN INDIGENOUS AUSTRALIAN


Apply under this category if you are of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent or you identify as a person of Australian
Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage and you are accepted as such by an Indigenous community.

4. DIFFICULT FAMILY CIRCUMSTANCES


Apply under this category if you can demonstrate that you have been prevented from reaching your educational performance potential because
of your family circumstances The circumstances considered under this category would include matters such as the care of an ill or mentally ill
family member and severe family disruption including dealing with alcoholism or drug addiction.

5. DISADVANTAGED SOCIO-ECONOMIC BACKGROUND


Apply under this category if you can demonstrate that you have suffered educational disadvantage as a result of your socio-economic
circumstances. The circumstances considered under this category would include matters such as individual or family poverty and economic
hardship.

6. APPLICANTS FROM RURAL OR ISOLATED AREAS


Apply under this category if you can demonstrate that you have suffered educational disadvantage as a result of either undertaking your
secondary schooling in a rural or isolated area and/or you are required to move from such an area to undertake your tertiary course. You can

7. WOMEN IN UNDER-REPRESENTED DISCIPLINES


Apply under this category if you are a female applying for a course in a field of study where women have been traditionally under-represented,
specifically Engineering, Information Technology and related technologies.

8. PERSONAL DISABILITY OR MEDICAL CONDITION


Apply under this category if you can demonstrate that you have suffered educational disadvantage as a result of a disability or mental condition.

9. REFUGEE STATUS
Apply under this category if you can demonstrate that you have suffered educational disadvantage as a result of your refugee status. You must
supply a certified copy of your refugee status papers from the Department of Immigration and Citizenship. If you are not an Australian citizen
you must also supply a certified copy of your current visa and passport photo page.
