Employment laws:

When it comes to employment laws every country have their own employment laws these
laws are designed to protect employs. Some companies misuse employes for their
benefits i.e more working hours , less salaries and some companies even do not provide
healthy and safety environment. In order to protect employees from these unfair
treatments government formulates these laws. IN us there is Department of Labor
oversees and enforces more than 180 federal laws governing workplace activities for
about 10 million employers and 125 million workers. the American laws are very strick
if any company does not follow these laws imposed by American government then these
companies are punished, and some times baned or fined. The following is a list of
employment laws that regulate hiring, wages, hours and salary, discrimination,
harassment, employee benefits, paid time off, job applicant and employee testing,
privacy, and other workplace and employee rights issues.

Wages & Hours:

o The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) prescribes standards for wages and
overtime pay, which affect most private and public employment. The act is
administered by the Wage and Hour Division. It requires employers to pay
covered employees who are not otherwise exempt at least the federal minimum
wage and overtime pay of one-and-one-half-times the regular rate of pay

Employee Benefit Security

o The Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) regulates employers
who offer pension or welfare benefit plans for their employees. Title I of ERISA
is administered by the Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA)
(formerly the Pension and Welfare Benefits Administration) and imposes a wide
range of fiduciary, disclosure and reporting requirements on fiduciaries of pension
and welfare benefit plans and on others having dealings with these plans.
Workplace Safety & Healthlaws
The Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Act is administered by the Occupational Safety and
Health Administration (OSHA). Safety and health conditions in most private industries are
regulated by OSHA or OSHA-approved state programs, which also cover public sector
employers. Employers covered by the OSH Act must comply with the regulations and the safety
and health standards promulgated by OSHA. Employers also have a general duty under the OSH
Act to provide their employees with work and a workplace free from recognized, serious
hazards. OSHA enforces the Act through workplace inspections and investigations. Compliance
assistance and other cooperative programs are also available.
Prouct safety laws:
National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act, U.S. legislation that required automobile
manufacturers to institute safety standards to protect the public from unreasonable risk
of accidents occurring as a result of the design, construction, or operation of
automobiles. A closely related legislative act, the Highway Safety Act, included
nonoperational safety factors, such as highway design, and it empowered a new
agencythe National Highway Safety Bureau (NHSB), which was in 1970 succeeded by
the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)to mandate uniform
safety standards. Both acts were passed by Congress and signed by Pres. Lyndon
Johnson in 1966.

Competition laws:
Antitrust laws are designed to keep free competition in the marketplace.
Competition encourages corporations to have lower pricing and better products
for consumers. Without these laws in place, businesses could merge to create
monopolies or engage in exclusivity contracts that can drive market prices.
