My beloved competitors.
First of all, lets give big thank to the Almighty God who has given us his mercy and
blessing, and also for the chance so that we can attend in this place to do our English
competition.

Ladies and gantleman,

The theme for our speech competition today is about education and freedom. This two words are
oftentimes we can hear everywhere. The key word for education are study and school, and for
freedom are free and have rights. So, if were connect education and freedom, its means
everybody have right to study and school. The government in Indonesia require all of the citizen
to got proper education, because education is the key to any form of development in a country.
But dont you know? If childrens that live in hinterland in Indonesia didnt got proper education.
Research shows if hinterland childrens in NTT have to walk for about 1-2 hours and 6 km to
reach their school, they have to pass the hill and cross the river. Their school also far from proper
word. In the same case, in South Kalimantan there are for about 2.952 schools that begin to
moldy, its because since its builded the government never renovation it. In the other side, the
teachers who ready to teach in the hinterland also limited. Like Ive been said back then,
education and freedom means everybody have right to got proper education. But why the
government in Indonesia just pay attention to the school and to the childrens in the big cities? Its
like hinterland in Indonesia arent freedom yet.

Ladies and gantleman,

If were talk about education, were absolutely will talk about achievements, right? There are to
many achievements that Indonesian childrens has got. For example : Indonesian children has got
gold medal on Biology International Olympic that held in Japan, got 4 gold medals and one
silver medal on Physics International Olympic that held in Kroatia, and there are so much more
achievements. This proves if Indonesian childrens actually have intelligence under average.
Research shows if person who have the 2nd place for the highest IQ in this world is from
Indonesia. Who is he? He is our ex-president, Mr. BJ Habibie, his IQ is 200. Unfortunetely, even
Indonesian childrens has got many achievements, education in Indonesia still lags far behind
many others countries. The slow progress in the education sector in our country is reflected in
the human development index. Reported in 2007, which ranked Indonesia is number 107 with
score 0,728. The Human Development Index is an indicator that measures a nations quality of
life, access to proper education, life expectancy, living standards and the level of literacy.
To have a better education in our countries, beside it depending in ourselves as the students, it
also depends on the government.
So now, what should Indonesian government do?
1. Indonesian government should give more attention to the education in the hinterlands, not
just in the big cities.
2. Indonesian government should improve the educators. If the educators are good, 95%
people that teached will be good too.
3. Indonesian government have to give proper facilities and infrastructures. Proper facilities
and infrastructures will be very helpful for improve the education.
Ladies and gantleman,
Before I close my speech, I would like to say if freedom doesnt mean were free to do anything
we want, but freedom means all of us do anything based on the rules. In this case, freedom
means all of us do the best things for our beloved country. Freedom must be accompanied with
achievements. Freedom must be improve the education. Freedom must be enjoyed by all of
Indonesian people. And who can make it all? Its all of us. So lets all of us, as the Indonesias
next generation try to improve our education. Never give up! I do belive, if we are keep on fire to
improve our education, we are absolutely will get a brighter future for our education in our
beloved country, Indonesia.
