Classroom Vision and Goals

Vision of Excellence for Academic Achievement Teacher Actions
This year in 6th grade math, my instructional vision is to require students to think beyond the numbers. Automaticity
Students will be forced to question their own thinking and use deductive reasoning to apply mathematics to Minute to Win it
real life. In order for students to master 6th grade math, subsequently competing with affluent schools in the Lunch and Learn
surrounding areas, they must first master the basics. Based on the needs of my students, my goal for this Math Lab
academic year is to work diligently to ensure that 80% of my students achieve mastery (80%) in Number Exploratory Activities
Theory (basic problem solving with whole numbers and all operations with fractions and decimals) as Explain activities
measured by their final exam. Our students consistently show signs of struggle when promoted to the next o Using EXAMPLES to
grade. Most lacking the ability to solve grade level operations involving fractions and decimals. I believe that if explain our
students master basic mathematical skills, they will have fighting chance to compete with schools in affluent reasoning
areas. In order to promote this type of achievement it will take rigorous remediation and high levels of grit Basic Skills testing
exhibited by all students. I further envision creating a sense of academic perseverance (grit) using the growth Grit Tracker
mindset to aid students in overcoming fear and reluctance when it comes to mathematics. These actions will
allow me to address mathematical stereotypes against black girls and welcome their ability to bring their
experiences and skills into the classroom.
School and Community Teacher Actions
My school is housed in a building which formerly served as a shelter dedicated to helping women, children, POP Afterschool
and families in need of food, housing, and shelter. Due to its history, rich in service and outreach, the walls SHE Speaks Series
now hold a school of 500+ girls and 40+ teachers dedicated to leadership and transforming Baltimore. Our Girl Talk afternoons
vision as a school is for our girls to not only embody the strength that once thrived within the structural walls Student Activities
of the building, but also the spirit of transforming Baltimore through female outreach. The theme of our year LIA Incentives and
in 6th grade is SuperGirl Power. Our girls need love and understanding but they also need boundaries, Rewards
deadlines, and consequences. They also need extracurricular activities, therefore it is my hope that our out-of
school time activities increase and girls become more invested in the school as whole.

CRP Dispositions Teacher Actions

Additionally, striving to be a culturally responsive educator, I am looking forward to teaching through the lens Self Reflection
of my racial identity as well as other cultures with whom I identify. Learning myself leads to adapting the Learning Student
sociocultural consciousness disposition which culturally responsive educators demonstrate. I am a black Interest
woman as are 99% of the student population that I serve; I want to be intentional about using our shared Movie: Hidden Figures
history and our interactions to my students benefit. My students are among the worlds greatest assets. It is Circle Talk
up to us as educators to help drive their energy into becoming leaders and active participants throughout the Engaging Activities
global community. Due to the time of my planning period, I am available during all lunches. I want to use this
time to get to know my students, have critical conversations with them, and most importantly affirm their
excellence. In addition, I want to make it a point to affirm them through each mistake and right choice, as a
result, learning from them in exchange. It is evident based on scores, socioeconomic statuses, and dispositions
that many of our students have been dealt different cards, many of which dont project winning hands.
However, I have pledge to teach my girls how to play the cards they have and realize its not the cards they
were dealt but the hands that hold them that are in control.
Fostering Cultural Competence/ Critical Consciousness Teacher Action
Just as I am setting goals for the classroom, I want my girls to set goals as well. These goals will go beyond Goal Setting
academics and into athletics, self esteem, self love and family. By serving as an example, and exposing our girls Community
to additional examples of women who complement their identities, I will challenge them to challenge the engagement
status quo. Students will be challenged to see beyond the streets of Baltimore and parameters of our
classroom, and tap into the opportunity that awaits them within the global community.
Partnering with Families Teacher Actions
This year I plan to be more intentional with families. I want families to feel apart of the classroom. Students Family Night
will be assigned task that must be completed with their families. Additionally, I will produce a night where Family Assignments
families can learn with their students as well. It is my belief that having encouraging families to become Family Tutoring
invested in the classroom is just a important as have the buy-in of the student. Consistent
Communication

In Baltimore, I have fell in love with my children. The desire to work with a demographic that looks like me and empower young girls is what
brought me to Baltimore. I do this work because I feel obligated. Between social media and the community around us I believe young black
girls need to positive role models to make their dreams and goals achievable. In addition, in my experiences in school it was my coaches and
mentors that kept me grounded and put me on the right track to college. It is my desire to the very same for another young girl.
