Description




This course centers on the character of leadership with the inte
gration of General Education. The course aims at enhancing stude
nts advanced English listening, speaking, reading, and writing
abilities, and developing their multi-cultural awareness. The co
urse covers four themes:
1. Character: young and social leaders;

2. Changes: leading arts and education;


3. Concepts: leading thoughts and beliefs;
4. Choices: leading science and discoveries.

The highlight of the first semester is individual reflection whi


le the second semester focuses on collective interactions. The c
ourse content and activities are devised on the basis of flipped
classroom where students are required to complete the weekly pre
views of the relevant listening and reading (up to 3,500 headwor
ds) and to apply them in various kinds of speaking and writing p
ractice (about 300 words) in class. The major form of evaluation
is the passport project. The teacher and students choose and com
plete the tasks that are appropriate to their abilities and of t
heir interests. The suggested tasks include: entering English co
ntests, interviewing local experts, debating in class or online,
writing a proposal, and presenting a written report/ oral report
on social media after taking a field trip.

With different themes and types of listening, reading, speaking
and writing practice in addition to the various task completion,
students will be able to:
1.Understand different kinds of listening texts that are relevan
t to the themes, including conversations, reports, comments, lec
Course tures, and etc.
Objectives 2.Use acquired vocabulary words and knowledge of General Educati
on to discuss issues and express opinions.
3.Comprehend additional articles that are relevant and/or cross-
disciplinary.
4.Write essays of approximately 300 words. The genres include: a
compare and contrast essay and a persuasive essay.
5.Complete tasks, such as conducting an interview, giving a pres
entation, participating in a mini-debate, writing a proposal, wr
iting a written report, etc.
6.Display and exhibit project work.

30%--mid-term exam (Listening 30% + Reading 30% + Writing 20% +

ss than 10 minutes late. It is regarded as a one-hour absence if


they are more than 10 minutes late unless a prior arrangement ha
s been made.

2. Except for sick leave, any sort of leave should be done onlin
e beforehand with proof. If sick leave is asked, provide the tea
cher with a copy of relevant proof (or a note signed by any rele
vant personnel) within two weeks and then the leave will be appr
oved.

3. Students are not allowed to take any makeup test for any abse
nce.

4. Cellular/smart phones are prohibited using in class unless it
is required by the lesson. Any noise or use of a cellular/smart
phone in class will result in some unpleasant consequence.


5. Plagiarism is strictly prohibited. Assignment of plagiarism w
ill be graded zero. Plagiarism will also be punished on the basi
s of school rules.

7. Deadlines for assignments are strict. Late assignments will c
ause a 25% discount. Complaints about the grades must occur with
in one week of receiving the grade.


8. The students who use the second-hand textbooks must erase the
answers to the exercises in their textbooks. Any violation will
cause one point deducted from the 40% ordinary evaluation.
