Newsletters
Each month a newsletter will be sent out to
keep you informed about our classroom activities.
Please feel free to share with us any information
that you would like to see included in these
newsletters. Starting in September the newsletters
will be sent home via email. Please let me know if
you would prefer a hard copy sent home with your
child instead or as well. These newsletters can also
be found on our blog.

Classroom Events and Parties

Jenny Klaus has been kind enough to serve as
our Room Parent. In addition to the teachers, she
too is an excellent person to contact if you have
questions concerning parties, field trips, or
classroom events. As the year moves forward we
hope that each one of you (mother’s, father’s,
grandparents) will be able to assist Jenny by
becoming involved in our classroom activities.
There is a wide range of “traditional” ways for you
to participate, and we are always open to new
suggestions that might tap the wonderful talents
and/or resources that you have to share! Thank you
in advance for your time!

Schedule System for Special Classes

Yesterday you received information about our
six-day schedule system for special classes. Please
look it over and see how it relates to 1B. It is
recommended that you keep this schedule handy so
that you can refer to it as needed.
Bus, Carpool, and C.A.S.E.
As we adjust to a new school year, it is very
important that you make sure we know where your
child should go after school. If your child rides the
bus, make sure we have the name of the school
district for the bus they will be riding. If there are
any changes in the normal routine, please write a
note and put it in your child’s homework folder.
Should plans change later in the day while your
child is at school, feel free to email me at
sarah_warstler@columbusacademy.org and contact
Michelle Saling in the Lower School Office (509-
2258) to get the message to your child. Often times
we are so busy at the end of the day and it can be
difficult to check email, so I suggest calling Michelle
Saling to reassure your child gets the message.

D.E.A.R.- Drop Everything And Read

Homework
As mentioned in our Grade Level letter, the
children will be asked to read each night for 15
minutes. Please return the book daily, even if your
child is not finished reading it. It is very important
that your child chooses and reads books that are
“just right” for them. This means your child should
be able to read their book independently and with
ease, while understanding what he/she has read.
As mentioned in yesterdays email, we WILL
NOT begin reading homework until Tuesday,
September 7th.

This Month
We will begin to explore our classroom and
home communities. While focusing on this idea, we
will also focus on cooperation, teamwork, and
getting to know the new friends in our class.

Extra Notes
Please write your child’s name on all items
he/she brings to school. This will eliminate a lot of
confusion!

Along with this letter you will find the Unit 1

Parent Letter for Math. This letter will provide you
with the skills we will be working on this month.

We are so excited about the upcoming school

year. If you ever have any questions or concerns,
please do not hesitate to contact me. (The best way
to reach me is through email!) We look forward to
seeing you at Parent’s Night Wednesday,
September 1st at 7:00, where more information will
be discussed!

Sincerely,
Sarah and Mikki
