Summary: Students will make a powerpoint breaking down how their favorite poem uses parts
of speech that supply rhythm and meaning.
Standards:
3c- students curate information from digital resources using a variety of tools and methods to
create collections of artifacts that demonstrate meaningful connections or conclusions.
6c- Students communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively by creating or using a variety of
digital objects such as visualizations, models, or simulations.
CC.SS.ELA-Literacy.RL.2.4- Describe how words and phrases (eg. Regular beats, alliteration,
rhymes, repeated lines) supply rhythm and meaning in a story, poem, or song.
Students will have a background knowledge on parts of speech and poetry. I will give a review
over the parts of speech and over some authors of poetry. I will then go over the requirements
of the assignment and then I will have an example powerpoint made ahead of time showing an
example of what the students will make. I will then go over how to use powerpoint by showing
how to use the different tools of Powerpoint. Students will choose a favorite poem and break it
down looking at how the parts of speech are used. Students will make a powerpoint using
computers and may use the internet to look up poets and poems they have heard in class. Once
they have chosen a poem, they will create a powerpoint showing at least 3 examples of parts of
speech used in that poem. I will walk around supervising and assisting where needed.
