1.1. Importantsafetyinformation
Thisvariablespeeddriveproduct(Optidrive)isintendedforprofessionalincorporationintocompleteequipmentorsystems.Ifinstalledincorrectly
itmaypresentasafetyhazard.TheOptidriveuseshighvoltagesandcurrents,carriesahighlevelofstoredelectricalenergy,andisusedtocontrol
mechanicalplantthatmaycauseinjury.Closeattentionisrequiredtosystemdesignandelectricalinstallationtoavoidhazardsineithernormal
operationorintheeventofequipmentmalfunction.
Systemdesign,installation,commissioningandmaintenancemustbecarriedoutonlybypersonnelwhohavethenecessarytrainingand
experience.TheymustcarefullyreadthissafetyinformationandtheinstructionsinthisGuideandfollowallinformationregardingtransport,
storage,installationanduseoftheOptidrive,includingthespecifiedenvironmentallimitations.

Optidrivesshouldbeinstalledonlybyqualifiedelectricalpersonsandinaccordancewithlocalandnationalregulationsandcodesof
practice.TheOptidrivehasanIngressProtectionratingofIP20.ForhigherIPratings,useasuitableenclosure.
Electricshockhazard!DisconnectandISOLATEtheOptidrivebeforeattemptinganyworkonit.Highvoltagesarepresentatthe
terminalsandwithinthedriveforupto10minutesafterdisconnectionoftheelectricalsupply.
Wheresupplytothedriveisthroughaplugandsocketconnector,donotdisconnectuntil10minuteshaveelapsedafterturningoffthe
supply
Ensurecorrectearthingconnections.Theearthcablemustbesufficienttocarrythemaximumsupplyfaultcurrentwhichnormallywill
belimitedbythefusesorMCB
TheSTOPfunctiondoesnotremovepotentiallylethalhighvoltages.ISOLATEthedriveandwait10minutesbeforestartinganyworkon
it
ParameterP101canbesettooperatethemotoratupto120,000rpm,henceusethisparameterwithcare.
Ifitisdesiredtooperatethedriveatanyfrequency/speedabovetheratedspeed(P109/P110)ofthemotor,consultthe
manufacturersofthemotorandthedrivenmachineaboutsuitabilityforoverspeedoperation.
Thefan(iffitted)insideoftheOptidrivestartsautomaticallywhentheheatsinktemperaturereachesapproximately45C.
CarefullyinspecttheOptidrivebeforeinstallationtoensureitisundamaged
IndoorUseOnly.
Flammablematerialshouldnotbeplacedclosetothedrive
Theentryofconductiveorflammableforeignbodiesshouldbeprevented
Relativehumiditymustbelessthan95%(noncondensing).
Ensurethatthesupplyvoltage,frequencyandno.ofphases(1or3phase)correspondtotheratingoftheOptidriveasdelivered.
Anisolatorshouldbeinstalledbetweenthepowersupplyandthedrive.
NeverconnectthemainspowersupplytotheOutputterminalsU,V,W.
SuitablyratedfusesorMCBshouldbefittedinthemainssupplytothedrive.
Donotinstallanytypeofautomaticswitchgearbetweenthedriveandthemotor
Wherevercontrolcablingisclosetopowercabling,maintainaminimumseparationof100mmandarrangecrossingsat90degrees
Ensurethatallterminalsaretightenedtotheappropriatetorquesetting

1.2. ElectromagneticCompatibility(EMC)
OptidriveisdesignedtohighstandardsofEMCandisoptionallyfittedwithaninternalEMCfilter.ThisEMCfilterisdesignedtoreducethe
conductedemissionsbackintothesupplyviathepowercablesforcompliancewithharmonisedEuropeanstandards.
ItistheresponsibilityoftheinstallertoensurethattheequipmentorsystemintowhichtheproductisincorporatedcomplieswiththeEMC
legislationofthecountryofuse.WithintheEuropeanUnion,equipmentintowhichthisproductisincorporatedmustcomplywith89/336/EEC,
EMC.
Foruseondomesticsupplies,screenedmotorcablemustbeusedwiththescreenterminatedtoearthonbothmotoranddrivesides.The
installationmustbecarriedoutbyqualifiedinstallationengineers,observinggoodwiringpracticesuchaspowerandsignalcablesegregationand
correctscreeningtechniquestominimiseemissions.Wheninstalledinthisway,theOptidrivewithbuiltinfilterhasemissionlevelslowerthan
thosedefinedinEN618003categoryC2for1stenvironmentsforscreenedcablelengthsofupto5m.
Forcablelengthsabove5m,theemissionlevelsmayexceedthosedefinedbyEN618003catC2.Inthiscase,furthermitigationmethods(suchas
fittinganexternalfilterOptifilter)mustbeemployediftheemissionslimitsaretobeupheld.
Whenusedonindustrialsupplies,or2ndenvironments,theinstallationmustbecarriedoutbyqualifiedinstallationengineers,observinggood
wiringpracticesuchaspowerandsignalcablesegregationandcorrectscreeningtechniquestominimiseemissions.Theemissionslimitsdefined
byEN618003catC3(2ndenvironment)areupheldforscreenedcablelengthsofupto25m.Thecablescreenshouldbeconnectedtoearthon
boththedriveandmotorsides.

Checkthedriveratinglabeltoensureitisofthecorrecttypeandpowerrequirementsfortheapplication.
StoretheOptidriveinitsboxuntilrequired.Storageshouldbecleananddryandwithinthetemperaturerange40Cto+60C

TheOptidriveshouldbemountedinaverticalpositiononlyonaflat,flameresistantvibrationfreemountingusingtheintegralmounting
feet.

3.4. Enclosuremounting
ForapplicationsthatrequireahigherIPratingthantheIP20offeredbythestandarddrive,thedrivemustbemountedinasuitablemetallic
enclosure.Thefollowingguidelinesshouldbeobservedfortheseapplications:

ForIP20Optidrives,installinasuitableenclosure,accordingtoEN60529ifspecificIngressProtectionratingsarerequired.
Enclosuresshouldbemadefromathermallyconductivematerial
Whereventedenclosuresareused,thereshouldbeventingaboveandbelowthedrivetoensuregoodaircirculationseethediagram
below.Airshouldbedrawninbelowthedriveandexpelledabovethedrive.
Inanyenvironmentswheretheconditionsrequireit,theenclosuremustbedesignedtoprotecttheOptidriveagainstingressofairborne
dust,corrosivegasesorliquids,conductivecontaminants(suchascondensation,carbondust,andmetallicparticles)andspraysor
splashingwaterfromalldirections.
Highmoisture,saltorchemicalcontentenvironmentsshoulduseasuitablysealed(nonvented)enclosure.

4.1. GroundingtheDrive
Thismanualisintendedasaguideforproperinstallation.InvertekDrivesLtdcannotassumeresponsibilityforthecomplianceorthe
noncompliancetoanycode,national,localorotherwise,fortheproperinstallationofthisdriveorassociatedequipment.Ahazardof
personalinjuryand/orequipmentdamageexistsifcodesareignoredduringinstallation.
ThisOptidrivecontainshighvoltagecapacitorsthattaketimetodischargeafterremovalofthemainsupply.Beforeworkingonthe
drive,ensureisolationofthemainsupplyfromlineinputs.Waitten(10)minutesforthecapacitorstodischargetosafevoltagelevels.
Failuretoobservethisprecautioncouldresultinseverebodilyinjuryorlossoflife.

OptidriveVTCusesasophisticatedVoltageVectorControlMethodasafactorydefaultsettingtoensurebestpossiblemotoroperation.This
controlmethodrequirestheOptidrivetocarryoutanautotunetomeasurecertainmotorparameterspriortooperation,toensurethisfunction
operatescorrectly,andreducetheriskofnuisancetripping.

Whilsttheautotuneproceduredoesnotrotatethemotorshaft,duringtheautotuneprocedure,themotorshaftmaystillturn.It
isnotnormallynecessarytouncoupletheloadfromthemotor,howevertheusershouldensureanythatnoriskarisesfromthe
possiblemovementofthemotorshaft.

AutotuneafterFactoryReset
Followingafactoryreset(Seesection6.1.3),thecorrectdatafromthemotornameplateshouldbeenteredinP107,P108andP109.Providing
thatP108isadjustedfromthefactorydefaultsetting,theOptidrivewillautomaticallycarryoutanautotuneonthemotorthefirsttimeitis
enabled.Duringtheautotune,thedisplaywillshowAuto-t.Thetestproceduremaytakeseveralminutestocompletedependingonthemotor.
