An Exploration of Vehicle Type and Safety

Note: I dont currently have any ongoing research or previous research to base an
abstract/proposal on. This is an idea Ive had for a future research project, of which may not be
feasible due to a variety of reasons.

When it comes to being safe on the road, i.e. driving to a destination, there are a lot of
factors to take into account. The largest of these is undoubtedly the driving ability of the people
around you. While this is something that cannot be directly controlled, steps can be taken to
mitigate risk and avoid drivers who might be a potential risk. Based on data from the National
Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), this study uses the tools and methods of Data
Science to produce a large-scale statistical analysis and visualization of fatal crashes in the
United States. The goal is to somewhat provide an idea of driver ability by looking at the types
and makes of vehicles primarily responsible for fatal crashes.
