Unit Summary
This unit focuses on Louisiana State Universitys mascot, Mike the Tiger. This unit consists of three
lessons that involve Math, History, and Language Arts. Students will complete and turn in assignments
for each lesson. Their progress and knowledge will be assessed at the end of each lesson through these
assignments.

Lesson 1: Math
- Students will be able to add and subtract to figure out how much food Mike the Tiger eats.
- Students will be able to apply their math skills to real examples.
- Students will be able to analyze data and determine the steps to solve a problem
mathematically.
- Students will be able to count by Roman Numerals.

Lesson 2: History
- Students will be able to creatively illustrate events in history.
- Students will be be able to explain their reasoning behind decisions.
Lesson 3: Language Arts
- Students will be able to identify key words and phrases about Mike the Tiger.
- Students will be able to apply their knowledge learned throughout the other lessons to
determine the most important words and phrases.

Procedures
Lesson 1 - Mike the Tiger Math - Louis Dauterive
1. Present students with the data on the Excel document. Distribute hard copies of it as well.
2. Go over all of the information with the class.
3. Work out every problem together as a class.
4. Students should write out the work and turn it in for a grade.

Lesson 2 - Mike the Tiger History - Ben Becnel


1. Present history of Mike the Tiger presentation
2. Instruct students to pick their favorite Mike through the years
3. Show students how to use sketch.io
4. Students will draw a picture of their favorite Mike and write one sentence about why this is their
favorite Mike on a piece of paper to turn in.
5. Help students save their Mike picture and print them out.
6. Students will be graded on participation, completion, and their sentences.

Lesson 3 - Mike the Tiger Language Arts - Katherine Tanner


1. Ask students to raise their hand and share anything they can remember learning about Mike the
Tiger.
2. If stuck, show the Mike the Tiger introduction video.
3. Pass around paper and instruct the students to write down two key words or phrases about Mike
the Tiger.
4. Go over the answers together.
5. On the board or a word document on the projector, come up with a list of words or phrases the
Wordle.
6. Input the list into World to create a word cloud.
7. Print out and display word cloud in classroom.
8. Collect pieces of paper for a grade.
