    * What happened to the VII chord? It became dominant because the 11th of the VII chord in
    melodic minor is an enharmonic major 3rd. Because the minor 3rd in this chord can also serve
    as a sharp 9 the enharmonic major 3rd takes precedence and the chord becomes dominant.
