- Countable nouns are nouns which can be counted. They can be used with quantifiers such as
a, an, the, some, any, a few, several and many.
- Uncountable nouns are nouns which come in a state or quantity which cannot be counted.
They are always considered to be singular and can be used with quantifiers such as some,
any, a little, less and much.
*Some uncountable nouns can be used in the plural as well, depending on the meaning or
context of the word. Take a look at these sentences:
Would you like some coffee? Uncountable
Because its referring to the drink in
general.
He has ordered a coffee. Countable
Because its referring to a cup of coffee.
Theres no truth in that rumours. Uncountable
Because it refers to that quality or state or
being true.
The fundamental truths about human Countable
nature. Because its referring to facts or beliefs that
are true.
Singular nous are nous that stand for one person, animal, thing or place.
Plural nouns are nouns that stand for more that one person, animal, thing or place.
