Unit #4 Immigration Entry Document

The United States has always been a country of immigrants. From the first
colonists through the waves of immigration that followed and even until
today this country has always served as a beacon of inspiration for people
from all over the world. As we have learned the rapid changes brought on
by Reconstruction and Industrialization changed much of the fabric of
American society. With the end of slavery and the spread of factories and
railroads new sources of labor were needed. This source of labor was
found in new arrivals to the country. America was becoming a melting
pot or some would argue a chopped salad. Whatever the case, the
immigrants brought their language, culture, and values to this new land.
In this unit you will uncover their stories. What challenges did they face?
What were their motivations? What impact did they leave on the country
and impact did the country leave on them? How did the changes in this
country at the time affect other populations and those who were here the
whole time?

Your task is to recreate a virtual itinerary of one of these with your team.
You will be elaborating on these inquiries through artifacts and
narratives. Lastly, your team will create its own immigrant story allowing
your peers to walk in their shoes as you detail the choices they faced.
