Great Big Fun Amazing Fabulous Challenge

Audience/Background Teenagers/B1+
An activity to review what has been learned in the class when finished the
book being used. A good transition activity to give students a break after
finishing a book.

Course Objectives Students will be able to develop proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and
listening. Students will be able to use these skills in order to communicate and
express themselves in English.

Lesson Objectives Students will practise listening skills by answering questions


Students will practise speaking skills by working in a group and by calling out
questions
Students will practise reading skills by correcting questions
Student will practise writing skills by creating questions
Students will take part in a quiz reviewing what has been learned during the
use of the text book.

Class set up Small groups in circles around the classroom

Procedure Warm up: Assign groups and assign a colour to each group. (Based on
teacher knowledge having a mix of strong students and weak in groups)
Groups create a name and a motto. Students create a mini poster and put it
on white board. They must introduce their group name and motto. (10 mins)
Teacher can give examples but students should be encouraged to be
creative.

Guided participation: Students will be assigned a chapter of the book that


they must create questions based on - Food, Sport, Music, School, Media.
Groups should be split in two and one half will create 5 questions and
answers and the other half 5 questions and answers. Students will be given
sheet to help guide them making their questions. (15 mins) Teacher will be
walking around to help.

Peer review/ Assessment Students will swap questions with other half of
group to have them checked for mistakes. Students must correct any
mistakes they encounter and hand up answer sheets to teacher. (5 mins)
Teacher will read over questions and answers and note down any errors for
feedback next class.

Application: Students will stand at the top of the class by group and call out
their questions. Each student must read at least one question. Groups must
answer questions on sheet provided. Groups pass answer sheets to another
group and group at top of class will call out answers in order for students to
correct. Then students hand up corrected sheets to teacher. In between
rounds the teacher will update scores beside the posters. (25 mins) Teacher
will make sure answers have been corrected and will listen for pronunciation
errors and note down common errors for feedback in next class.

Wrap up: Sum up scores and announce winner of Quiz. Award prize.

Anticipated Problems Class will become noisy or rowdy with excitement/competitiveness (Make
and Solutions students aware that we must be respectful to the people reading out the
questions and listen to them. Points can be taken away for groups that are too
noisy)
May run out of time. (Can continue in next class and set homework as to
review whatever chapter in book is left in quiz)
Students may lack ideas for team names. (Teacher will have examples at
hand)
