Reflections on Observation Task 5: Literacy Software / Web-based Programs

1. Were there any literacy software/web based programs used in the

classroom? If there were, select (a); if there were not, select (b).

a) What did early childhood literacy skills the software/web-based

programs address?

-We had so many Arabic based programs and less English programs. All of them were

focusing specifically on the phonics because in kindergarten it is the first thing that children

start learning. Some programs are for advanced children where they can read words and

create words or also read a story. The most important thing was the availability of the

programs for the students and how the teachers use them. The programs also support
reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. Stories support reading and listening skills

because children listen to their teacher while she is reading and they also have the

opportunity to read from the literacy corner. Moreover the writing skills can be developed

with the help of the teacher using different activities and aids. The teacher in the classroom

used books and worksheets to develop childrens writing skills. The teacher also use the

iPad or small whiteboard to let children practice writing over and over until they become

aware of the way they need to write the letter. Speaking skills need to be encouraged by the

teacher in the circle time because she is the one who needs to give children time to speak in

front of each other about a topic so she would train them and make them more confident in

themselves.

b) Provide at least two (2) literacy/web-based programs that the teacher can use

to help assist her students in developing their early literacy skills.
