Finding Scale Factor
Scale factor refers to the ratio of a length on one object to the corresponding
length on a different object. It is very important to remember that you must use
the same unit of measurement for both parts of the ratio.

First, write the measurements as a ratio that 1 cm 2m

begins with the model first and the real/original
object second. Model : Original
(When looking at shapes, you may have to look at 3m : 2cm

prime notation to find the original.)

There are 100 cm in every meter. So, 2
meters is equal to 200 cm. We can replace
(If Necessary) Second, change the the 2 in the ratio with 200.
measurements in order to use the same units. Model : Original
200cm : 1cm

Third, simplify your ratio and interpret its Model : Original

200cm : 1cm
meaning. The scale factor is
200.
