Hansel and Gretel

A poor woodcutter and his wife had two children named Hansel and Gretel. Their mother died when they were
young. Hansel and Gretel were very sad. Soon their father remarried but their stepmother was very cruel. One
day, she took the children deep into the forest and left them there. Clever Hansel had some breadcrumbs in his
pocket and had dropped them on the way so that they could find their way back home. Alas! The birds ate all
the crumbs and they couldnt find the path that led back home.

Hansel and Gretel went deeper and deeper into the forest. They were hungry and tired. Finally, after walking for
a long time, they saw a cottage made of chocolate, candies, and cake. Look, Hansel! A chocolate brick!
shouted

Gretel in delight and both ate it hungrily.

Now, a wicked witch lived there. When she saw Hansel and Gretel, she wanted to eat them. She grabbed the
children and locked them in a cage. The witch decided to make a soup out of Hansel and eat him first. She
began boiling a huge pot of water for the soup. Just then, Gretel crept out of her cage. She gave the wicked
witch a mighty push from behind and the witch fell into the boiling water. She howled in pain and died
instantly. Hansel and Gretel found treasure lying around the cottage. They carried it home with them. Their
stepmother had died and their father welcomed them back with tears of joy. They never went hungry again!

Wolf and Seven Kids (Wolf and Seven Goats) - summary

Let's start with a short summary of this well known fairy tale from the famous collection of brothers
Grimm. There is a mother goat who has seven kids. She has to leave home to get some food. Before that she
warned them not to open anybody because there is a big bad wolf out there just waiting his chance to eat them.
Mother goat tells the children the wolf can be cunning. Kids should be aware her voice is nice and soft and
wolf's voice is deep and rough. Her fur is white and his fur is black, so they should notice the difference.
Soon after she leaves the house, wolf knocks on the door and wants to enter. Kids don't let him in and tell him
his voice is too rough. So he changes his voice and tries again. This time his black paw with claws revealed

Wolf gets some flour and knocks again with white paw, similar to their mothers. Kids open the door and he eats
them all but the youngest. This kid hides in a grandfather clock and survives the massacre.
Soon after mother returns and discovers open door and the mess in the house. Youngest kid tells her what

The Brave Tin Soldier

AUTHOR: HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN

This is one of the most unusual fairytales by Andersen. It doesnt have a happy ending and the main characters
suffer a tragic death. It talks about the love between a one-legged soldier, who represents those who are
different, and a beautiful paper ballerina.

The soldier met different characters from the childrens room and in the end, despite all the temptations, he
managed to get to his loved one.

The moral of the story is that in life we will encounter many obstacles but that in the end love is the one that
will save us. The soldier stays strong even though he spent his life standing on one leg. He is small but still
manages to fight off the temptations in order to see his ballerina one more time. Its a warm and emotional story
about two lovers who are completely different than others because of their looks.

Once upon a time tin, soldiers were an inevitable asset in a childrens room but, unfortunately, today they have
been forgotten. Reading this fairytale gives us a chance to reminisce about past times and enjoy the values of
love, hope, game, and imagination.

Book Summary

Once upon a time a little boy got a box of tin soldiers for his birthday. The little soldiers, 25 of them to be exact,
had red and blue uniforms, guns and stood tall. They were the same, like brothers, except for one soldier who
missed one leg. He was different from the others because during his making they ran out of tin. Despite
everything, the one-legged soldier stood proudly.

The boy took his soldiers out and placed them all next to a castle where all his others toys were. It was a
beautiful, colorful castle in front of which were trees and a mirror that represented a lake. Wax swans were on
the lake and they looked at each other. There was a certain girl that stood out from the crowd.

When the one-legged soldier saw the beautiful girl he thought she was just right for him. She was made out of
paper, had long hair and wore a ballet dress. Her hands were raised to the sky and she stood on one leg while
her other leg was bent at the knee. She had the posture of a ballerina. It seemed to the soldier that she also had
one leg. They looked at each other and when the night would come all the other toys would have fun except for
the two of them who would keep on looking at each other.

The soldier thought that it wouldnt be nice if such a beautiful girl lived in a box because she deserved to live in
a castle. He was still determined to get to know her.

The next day the boy took his soldier and placed him by the window. When the wind started to blow it knocked
the soldier to the street. Two boys found him there and placed him in a paper boat and let him sail down the
drain. The boat reached the river and then it sank. The soldier started drowning and a fish swallowed him.
Luckily, the fish was caught and the next day it was sold on the market. The boys mother was in that market
every day and she bought the fish in which the soldier was.

The boys mother got ready to prepare the fish for lunch when she saw the soldier. Both of them were very
surprised. The soldier was excited for having the chance to be with his beloved ballerina and with all the other
toys. The boy placed him on his regular spot by the castle so he could observe the ballerina again. Their
glancing lasted for days until it was interrupted by the boys brother. He took the soldier and threw him in the
fireplace. To make things worse a strong wind started to blow and it blew the ballerina to the fireplace.

The soldier didnt know if he was burning with the fire of the fireplace or by the fire of love. His color
disappeared but he still watched his beautiful ballerina. Even though he felt he was disappearing he still held his
gun and stood proudly.
The only thing left of the two of them was a little diamond stuck on a heart shaped piece of tin.

The Emperors New Clothes

AUTHOR: HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN

The Emperors new clothes is a fun story about human vanity and the fear of truth, wisdom, stupidity, naivety
and incompetence. It reminds us of the never-ending human desire for power, material things and good position
in the society.

The main starter in the story is the Emperors weakest spot and that is clothes. The other starters of the plot are
the conmen who wanted to take advantage of the Emperors weak spot to earn money. The time is not specific
but, as in all fairy tales, everything happens once upon a time in a castle.

Andersen tried hard to tell the plot and explain great themes with short and easy sentences and despite the fact
that the stories were short their composition was perfect from the starting point all the way to the end.

Book Summary

Once upon a time, there was an Emperor who was only interested in good clothes. He was so in love with it that
he did not care much for anything else. One day a few conmen appeared and told him that they were excellent
weavers and that they could make the most beautiful fabric in the world. It didnt take long to get the Emperors
attention. They told him they made fabrics of wonderful samples and colors with a specific feature. They were
invisible to anyone who was stupid or incapable of doing his job.

The conmen ordered some of the finest materials and secretly they sold them to get the money. To fool the
Emperor and his servants they started to weave but there was nothing. The Emperor sent him most loyal
servants to check up on them. When they saw that they cant see the alleged fabric they were scared that theyll
get fired for being stupid or incompetent to do their jobs. That is the reason why they lied that they saw magical
fabrics.

In the end, the Emperor decided together with many helpers see the fabrics and see how the weavers work was
going. Everyone who accompanied him was afraid to come off as a stupid person so they admired the fabric
that wasnt there and advised the Emperor to put that nothing on himself. The conmen showed him the cape,
pants, and the coat but they were actually empty-handed.

The Emperor took all the clothes off of himself and the conmen dressed him in the invisible clothes. The
Emperor started a procession where his servants walked behind him with their hands raised to hold the cape.
Everyone admired him and his new clothes until one boy yelled that the Emperor had no clothes on.

The Golden Goose

The Golden Goose unlike other Grimms fairytales is less famous. The main character is Simpleton and he
got his name because his always pulling pranks and jokes. The theme of the fairytale is the reward some can
receive for doing a good deed.
The plot begins suddenly, with no introduction, so there is no ordinary part where we get to know the characters
and there is no time span nor do we know where the plot is settled. The fairytale is here to teach us that those
with a good heart win and that life rewards the kind ones.

Grimm brothers tried to perfection a folks tale from which they extracted only the important parts without
making any digressions. The fairytale has a sudden beginning and a sudden end, which was a characteristic of
their fairytales.

Summary

Once upon a time, lived a man who had three sons. The youngest one was named Simpleton and he was the
punch line of every joke. After the older brothers didnt gather enough wood for the fire, the father sent his
youngest son to get some wood in the woods. His mother provided him with some wine and cake for the road.

When he arrived to the forest he saw an old man sitting on a log. It was obvious that the man was thirsty and
hungry so Simpleton shared everything he had with him. It was impossible to describe the mans happiness and
he rewarded Simpletons kindness.

He told him to cut down a tree and that anything he finds in it shall be his. Simpleton listened and he went to
cut a tree. He found a goose whose feathers were filled with gold.

Simpleton got excited and he headed for the town. He decided to get some rest before he returns so he spent the
night in an inn and he left the goose with the others. The owners daughters admired the animal.

It didnt take long for girls to want one of the feathers so the older one reached for the goose and when she
caught a feather she couldnt separate herself from the goose. Her sisters wanted to help her but they had the
same end.

Morning came and Simpleton went back to the town. He took his goose with him and the sisters ran after him
because they were stuck. A priest saw him on the way and he lectured them about running after the young man.

He decided to grab the youngest sister but then he also got stuck. He called for help but everyone would just get
glued to that unusual group.

Simpleton came to the town with his unusual group and in that city a king, who had a sad daughter, lived. He
was so desperate about hr state that he promised her hand to anyone who makes her laugh. The two of them
were walking when Simpleton was passing by. The king couldnt resist but to laugh to that unusual scene and
so did his daughter. The happiest was Simpleton because he knew hed get the kings daughters hand.

When the king realized that Simpleton was poor he decided not to give his daughter away. He decided to come
up with a few simple tasks that the young man wont be able to do so he wouldnt marry his daughter. First he
had to find a man who was able to drink all of the wine from the basement.

Simpleton remembered the man from the forest and he went to get him. After the task was successfully
completed the king asked Simpleton to find a man wholl eat a lot of bread. The man helped him again.

The third task was to build a ship that will work on water and ground. The man helped for the third time. The
king got his ship and he had to allow the marriage. The princess was happy forever after.
The Frog Prince

The Frog Prince is a classical fairytale about a prince who is turned into a frog by an evil witch. In order to
break the spell a good princess had to grant him one wish. Luckily the youngest princess in the kingdom came
to play near the lake every day so the frog got hes chance to become a prince again.

The moral of the story is to think twice before making promises we cant keep. The princess had to listen to her
father in this case because it is rude not to keep her promise but in the end she got a beautiful prince for her
husband.

Except for keeping her promise the princess had to be responsible for her actions. She told a lie to the frog so
her father got angry because she cared more about her ball while she judged the frog by his appearance and not
kindness.

Book Summary

Once upon a time a beautiful princess lived. She was the prettiest of the three sisters. Her beauty made the sun
stop to shine upon her. She wanted to play by the lake with her golden ball. She would do it every day because
she enjoyed it. Once she accidentally dropped the ball to the lake and it sunk. She started crying and got
desperate.

Her cry would soften even those who dont have a heart because it sounded so desperate. It even woke a green
frog that jumped straight to her. He asked her why was she crying so loudly and she told him about her missing
ball. She didnt know how to reach the ball and she was so sad she couldnt stop crying.

The frog told her not to worry because he was here to help. Of course he asked her what will he get in return
and the princess told him he can get anything without thinking it twice. She told him she could give him jewels,
clothes and even a smaller castle. The frog told her none of it was necessary because all he wanted was her
company, dinners together and to share a pillow with her. If she said yes he would bring her ball back.

The princess agreed even though she had no intentions to keep her promise. When the frog got her ball back she
just laughed and ran to the castle thinking the frogs demands were a joke.

The next day the princess had dinner with her father. The food was served on golden plates and they had golden
cups. Soon the frog appeared on the door and demanded the princess to keep her promise.

The princess wasnt thrilled with his visit and she wanted to kick him out but her father was curios. She told
him the whole story and her father was angry that she didnt keep her promise and was ready to kick out an
innocent animal that helped her out on the street.

The king allowed the frog to dine with them so he enjoyed the delicious food and took everything he could
reach with his though. The princess was repulsed by his behavior but had to keep her promise.

After a delicious dinner the frog went to rest. He asked the princess to take him to her room so he could rest in
her comfortable pillow. She became more and more desperate because she had to sleep next to the sticky frog.
Her father warned her one more time that she had to keep her promise.

The frog fell asleep but the princess stayed up all night. All she could think about was that green creature laying
next to her.
The next day when the sun appeared the frog got cheerfully out of bed. He offered the princess a deal. He told
her that if she kisses him hell disappear for good. She thought about it and accepted. She puckered her lips and
gave him a kiss. She yelled that its over now and that he should go away.

After everything the ugly frog turned into a beautiful young man. The princess was astonished by his
appearance. She couldnt believe that such an ugly frog could turn into such a beautiful young man.

He started teasing her and telling her hell disappear forever. Despite the deal he asked her if she would accept
to live with him instead of the ugly frog.

She accepted and he told her how he became a frog because of a spell cast by an evil witch that could only be
broken by a princess granting his wish.

They got married and lived happily ever after.

Red Riding Hood Summary

Once upon a time, there was a little girl.
Her grandmother gave her a red riding hood, and the girl loves it so much she wears it all the time. So
everybody started to call her Little Red Riding Hood.
One day mother told the girl her grandmother fell ill. Because she lived alone deep in the wood, she would
probably be happy to get some food.
Then mother gave a basket with food and a bottle of wine to Little Red Riding Hood and told her: "Don't stray
from the path!"
The girl promised but soon forgot about her mother's warning. After a while, she met a wolf in the wood. He
asked her where she was going and she told him about her granny's bad health and where she lives.
Wolf tricked her to stop and pick some flowers. She did that and in the meantime, the wolf ran to the granny's
house.
The wolf, pretending to be her granddaughter, entered the grandmother's house and ate the lady. Then he
dressed in her nightgown and waited for Little Red Riding Hood.
When she came in, the famous dialogue about great arms, great ears, and great teeth followed. After that the
wolf ate the girl and took a nap.
Soon after a huntsman came by the house and heard snoring. He entered cautiously, saw the sleeping monster in
granny's bed and guessed what happened. Then he opened sleeping wolf's stomach with a knife.
Granny and Red Riding Hood came out and helped the huntsman to fill wolf's stomach with stones. When the
wolf woke up, he tried to run away, but stones were too heavy. He fell; down and died.
Grandmother, granddaughter, and huntsman lived happily ever after.
