GROUP LEARNING EXPERIENCE PLANNING SHEET

Student Name: Amanpreet Jassal Course Code: ECS 4070

Age Group: Kindergartens Date: November 9, 2017

Learning Experience: Senses

Programming Purpose: The 5 senses are a part of everyday life. Perhaps, every day we see, touch, smell, hear and
taste new things. An activity focusing on the 5 senses will help children understand and communicate about what
they encounter in the world. Furthermore, the children need to be aware of when a particular sense is appropriate.
For example, last week a childs lunch was in a glass container and it broke. All the children were watching, and
heard it. The child whos lunch it was decided to touch it and pick his food up. It was dangerous, during situations
like these children should be aware not to touch it.

Objective:

Children will enhance physical skills, particularly in tool use (5.3 in the elect document) as they use the paper
clips, and attach it to the correct section.
Children will strengthen cognition in observation (4.5 in the elect document) as they use all their senses to gather
information while observing. They will focus on specific details.
Children will strengthen cognition in questioning (4.4 in the elect document) as they ask why questions to figure
out which sense is the most appropriate for each image.
Children will strengthen emotional development in self-esteem (2.3 in the elect document) as they show pride in
their achievements. For example, regardless of if the child got all the images correct, I can admire the childs effort
and achievement which promotes a positive sense of self.

Materials:

3 sets of 7 images that each child will have to identify as see, touch, smell, hear or taste
21 paper clips

Opening (Introduction): Today we are going to talk about our senses. Who knows how many senses we have? Does
anyone want to try to list them all?

Body (Content)

1. Working with a group of 3 at a time, I will give each child 7 images and 7 clothes pins.
2. I will give them an example of what they have to do.
3. I will allow for silence so they children can focus on completing the task. Also, I want to avoid interrupting
the children as they are engaged in communicating and helping one another if need be.
4. If a child is having difficulty understanding what the image is portraying I will use telling, explaining, and
informing, which will exposes the children to new vocabulary and describe what behavior that is portrayed.
5. I will use the hand-over-hand technique to provide assistance when needed.
6. At the end, I will challenge the children. One by one we will go through each sense and see if we can name
different actions or materials for each sense.

Closing (Ending): Thank you guys for participating. What did you learn from todays activity? Which sense do we use
most often? All of them are used quite equally!

Transition: You can play with a bin toys quietly.
