1. Classroom Climate/Culture - Student Behavior

Comments:
Ms. Zyvith called on students who had a quiet hand up. She gave signals to friends who did not raise a quiet hand but
instead blurted out. She stated she was looking for five star listeners (eyes watching, ears listening, lips closed, hands still,
feet quiet)

2. Instruction - Instructional Time


Intern has materials, supplies, and equipment ready at the start of the lesson or activity.
Intern gets class started quickly.
Intern uses available time for learning and keeps students on task.

Comments: Materials were ready at the start of the lesson. Ms. Zyvith gave reminders of the time remaining until clean up.
She and Ms. Stocks circulated a prompted students to continue working, add details, etc.

3. Instruction - Instructional Planning and Presentation


Intern establishes links with prior learning and experiences.
Intern arranges learning activities to support standards.
Intern appropriately uses a variety of teaching styles.

Comments: Ms. Zyvith accessed prior knowledge by engaging the students in a discussion about puzzles. She read the
book Where Oliver Fits. She stopped reading periodically to discuss the text and make predictions. Ms. Zyvith modeled
the art activity and reviewed expectations of what was to be included. She concluded the lesson by fitting together the
students puzzle piece and discussing how all the unique pieces came together to make one puzzle and with one missing
piece the puzzle would not be complete. This was a wonderful visual to help build understanding of community and team
work.

4. Instruction - Instructional Monitoring


Intern circulates to check performance and monitor progress.
Intern varies level of questioning.
Intern ensures that all students have the opportunity to participate.

Comments: Ms. Zyvith and Ms. Stocks circulated to answer any questions and to prompt students to include all the
components. Ms. Zyvith paid particular attention to the students who struggle with focus to ensure they were engaged.
5. Impact on Student Learning - Facilitating Instruction
Intern establishes clear outcomes for learning.
Intern communicates learning outcomes to students.
Intern adjusts lesson based on student responses/ongoing assessment.
Intern connects learning outcomes to the NCSCOS.
Comments: Prior to beginning the craft portion of the lesson Ms. Zyvith lead a summary discussion of the text and described
the craft/activity and how it would demonstrate the concept of uniqueness and community.

Intern provides feedback on the correctness or incorrectness of in-class work to encourage student growth.
Intern affirms correct oral responses appropriately and moves on.
Intern provides sustaining feedback after an incorrect response by probing, repeating the question, giving a clue,
