0 Introduction

1.1 Background of the project

A shopping trolley is a large metal basket on wheels which is provided by

supermarket for their customers to use during do their groceries in the shop.
However, as know that the trolley nowadays not user-friendly especially for the older
and the disabled person. As example, the disabled person having difficulties to do
groceries if they using the common trolley such as they have problem to move along
and to control the trolley when it had load in it. In addition, the trolley nowadays really
needed to improvement so can able to support the disabled person during doing
shopping effectively and efficiently.

This project is to produce a multifunction and friendly product to provide

service to help user in their movements, easier to find the items and control it
through limited space in the supermarket or hypermarket. The main component that
switch in all the system of trolley is Arduino microcontroller where the function to
make sure all the movement of trolley accurately and easily to user control it. All the
directions that install in the system of trolley is simple to understand to anyone that
use and the trolley also have their own limit speed while moving in the supermarket
to avoid any accident happen. Figure 1 show the combination of trolley which has
multifunction.

Figure 1: Example multi-function trolley

1
Besides that, this project will be use the application Bluetooth that install in the
trolley to control the movements and the Bluetooth will be connected with android
applications to make it functions. The trolley also will be install an ultrasonic sensor
to avoid the barriers such as customer or things that it detect at the supermarket. In
addition, this project also can provide service to user and helps on carry heavy loads
for user while shopping. On other hand, this product will improve the relationship and
perspective between people and technologies product.

1.2 Objectives

The objectives of this project are:

i. To design and produce a versatile trolley that is user friendly for human and
makes their life more productive.
ii. To help disabled people and other people to move around during do groceries
in supermarket.
iii. To produce automatic trolley that can carry a heavy thing to move from one
point to another point.
iv. To develop an Android and Bluetooth application as main controller and
portable mechanism for shopping trolley.

2.0 Marketing Plan

2.1 Executive summary

This Marketing project entitle Friendly Automatic Trolley emphasize for

generally to disabled people to used it for daily life. Which is can be implemented in
any space especially shopping mall. This project scope consists of two main sections
which are hardware and software that can be used.

The first section is hardware where was contain the installation of the main
microcontroller which is Arduino Mega. This microcontroller combine and programme
with the ultrasonic sensor and the motor driver to make sure the automatic trolley
can move by itself without get any help from human. This automatic trolley will be
install with the Bluetooth device to get command from the smartphones user and
follow user without any fails.

The function of ultrasonic sensor is sensor that has been used mainly for
object avoidance in various robotics projects. It essentially gives eyes awareness
and can prevent robot from crashing or falling off a table. It has also been used in
turret applications, water level sensing, and even as a parking sensor. This simple
project will use the HC-SR04 sensor with an Arduino and a processing sketch to
provide a neat little interactive display on computer screen.

Besides that, the other component that will use in this project is Bluetooth HC-
06 which is consists of Bluetooth serial interface module and Bluetooth adapter. This
kind of Bluetooth was known as multi-device communication which is only point to
point communication for modules but the adapter can communicate with multi-
modules. This Bluetooth HC-06 used to provide wireless data transmission between
Arduino and android application on the smartphones.

For software, we will use CATIA (Computer Aided Three-Dimensional

Interactive Application) to design our prototype while PROTEUS will be used to
construct the coding of our system.

3
The limitation of our project is the weight and the size of the items. This is
because, the size of the trolley has it limitation itself as it has to carry the weight of
the items. Plus, another of limitation is for the blind people as we are not using any
software that can help any blind people to buy groceries or any other items.

4
2.2 Target market

Market research is defined as the process of gathering, analysing and

interpreting information about a market, about a product or service to be offered for
sale in that market, and about the past, present and potential customers for the
product or service; research into the characteristics, spending habits, location and
needs of your business's target market, the industry as a whole, and the particular
competitors you facing.

Marketing technology are tools that make life simpler for marketers to market.
They automate difficult, time-consuming and repetitive manual tasks to surface
customer insight. Build by technologists, used by marketers. Marketing technology
should aim to remove or significantly reduce the need for IT involvement.

5
2.4 Marketing Mix

The marketing mix has been defined as the set of marketing tools that the firm
uses to pursue its marketing objectives in the market. Thus, the marketing mix refers
to four broad levels of marketing decision which are product, price, promotion and
place.

2.4.1 Product

A product refers to an item that satisfies the consumers need or wants. Products
may be tangible (goods) or intangible (services, ideas or experiences). This Friendly
Automatic Trolley is eco-friendly because it only use battery. It is portable, very easy
to use around the shopping complex especially for old and disabled person. There
are only few components to be fixed with the shopping trolley. Such as, Arduino
Mega board, DC Motor 12V, Ultrasonic sensor and HC06 Bluetooth. These
components have specific characteristics.

The ultrasonic sensor must be connected with the Arduino Mega board to
ease detect and to avoid any obstacles in the surrounding environment. The Arduino
Mega also connected with the motor which is depends on 12 Volts batteries to
supply current to make sure the motor is moving smoothly.

The Bluetooth module should be installed on the trolley and connected with
the Arduino Mega in order to control the motion of the motor where the Android
application used to send the data to Arduino via the Bluetooth. The communication
between Android smartphones and the robot via the Bluetooth connection to make
the trolley move along follow the user without any problem.

In order to prevent the shopping trolley collides with other shopping trolley or
people in the supermarket, the ultrasonic sensor were used to avoid some collision.
There have problem faced in hardware development which is when designing and
installing the connection between the main components must be taken into
consideration.

6
Besides that, the connection between Bluetooth and the android smartphones
also need to focus more to make sure the communication can be read by the
Bluetooth devices. On other hand, the distance between the trolley and the android
smartphones must be in the range in order to get more accurate communication
between both of them. The devices must be pairing to be able communicate and
exchange the data since the wave signal was shared.

2.4.2 Promotion

Promotion alludes to the showcasing correspondence used to make the offer

known to potential clients and influence them to research it further. Promotion
components incorporate publicizing, advertising, coordinate offering and deals
promotion. The motivation behind promotion is presenting new items. Advertisers will
attempt to ready shoppers about the nearness of new items and administrations in
the commercial centre through promotion. For example, Friendly Automatic Trolley
which in marketing advertising comes with a new, faster system will showcase the
benefits of the new products.

Other than that is expand the market known as the purpose for promotion.
Effective promotion can make customer mindful of the nearness of new products and
administrations in the commercial center and subsequently help advertisers to grow
their market too.

For the Friendly Automatic Trolley, promotion can make through web-based
social networking. For example, Facebook, Whatsapp, Instagram and so on. The
marketers can share the advantages and benefits of the Friendly Automatic Trolley.
Marketers likewise can make a video about this product with its information to attract
the customers.

A marketing brochure is a printed piece of marketing collateral that often includes

a trifold layout with page inserts or a booklet format. Marketing brochures are among
the most versatile tools that can use to inform customers of this product. Brochures
offer much more room for company and technology information than other print items,
such as a newspaper or magazine or postcard. Even a simple trifold design allows
for a colourful front page and separate sections for the technology information.

7
2.4.3 Price

Price refers to decisions surrounding list pricing, discount pricing and special offer
price. Price refers to the total cost to customer to acquire the product, and may
involve both monetary and psychological costs such as the time and effort expanded
in acquisition. The price of Friendly Automatic Trolley is RM237.20 for each. This is
the price that we promote to the marketers foe each trolley that will be used by the
customer at malls. When doing business, marketers set prices by adding a markup
to the cost of the product.

The markup can be in the form of percentage, either the selling price, or the cost
of goods, or in ringgit. In addition, it can minimize the competition when marketers in
the same industry use method and set similar prices for this product. For this
Friendly Automatic Trolley, we use initial mark up. Initial markup is this difference
between the cost of the product and the initial selling price. It allows marketers to
cover the cost and expenses of all products in order to gain a preferred profit and
thus, grow in the market.

2.4.4 Place

Place refers to the point of sale. In every industry, catching the eye of the
customer and making it easy for people to buy it is the main aim of a good
distribution or place strategy. The target place for this product is mall, hypermarket,
supermarket, hospital and so on.

8
2.4 SWOT Analysis

The project designed of our product has strength to break through the market.
First for all the price that offers is reasonable and affordable. Although the trolley has
multifunction but the price is still valuable. Another strength of our product is eco-
friendly to use because only use battery. Hence, it is portable and very easy to use.
This product is easy to move around the shopping complex especially for old and
disabled person.

For medium to sell this product we are choosing online shopping and offline
shopping. The example of online website is eBay, Facebook, and Instagram. Both of
Facebook and Instagram are social website which a million of people have visited
every year while eBay is a site that has global reach, lists just about everything and
anything could possibly want to sell, and has buyers who regularly sift through all of
those categories, either looking for specific treasures or for anything they may want
to acquire. Example of offline shopping are direct mail, discount pricing and loyalty
programs. As carry on this project design to market, we need to do the SWOT
Analysis.

SWOT Analysis is defined as a study undertaken by an organization to

identify its internal strengths and weaknesses, as well as its external opportunities
and threats. SWOT is a basic, analytical framework that assesses what an entity
(usually a business, though it can be used for a place, industry or product) can and
cannot do, for factors both internal (the strengths and weaknesses) as well as
external (the potential opportunities and threats). There are 4 elements of SWOT
Analysis which are strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats.

Strengths describe what an organization excels at and separates it from the

competition: things like a strong brand, loyal customer base, strong balance sheet,
unique technology and so on. For example, a hedge fund may have developed a
proprietary trading strategy that returns market-beating results; it must then decide
how to use those results to attract new investors.

9
Weaknesses stop an organization from performing at its optimum level. They
are areas where the business needs to improve to remain competitive: things like
higher-than-industry average turnover, high levels of debt, an inadequate supply
chain or lack of capital.

Opportunities refer to external factors that an organization can use to give it a

competitive advantage. For example, a car manufacturer may be able to export its
cars into a new market, increasing sales and market share, if tariffs in a country are
substantially reduced the "opportunity" in this case. Threats refer to factors that have
the potential to harm an organization. For example, a drought is a threat to a wheat-
producing company.

Figure 2: SWOT Analysis Diagram

2.6 Budgeting plan

The table 2 below shows the value of cost prototype. This value is only for a
complete set prototype from the beginning of production until complete. The total
price of production is RM237.20 with the components of Arduino, motor, motor driver,
Bluetooth HC-06, ultrasonic sensor, mechanical and small components for the
project.

No Name of Quantity Price

component
1 Arduino Mega 1 RM52
2 Ultrasonic 3 RM37.50
Sensor
3 DC Motor 12V 2 RM61.20
4 Motor driver 1 RM16.50
5 Bluetooth Hc06 1 RM23.50
6 Tyres 2 RM8
7 Mechanical and RM38.50
components
Total RM237.20
Table 2: Cost Analysis

By referring to the factory of electronics, the total of production can be

reduced if buy in form of 30 set complete production. The total production of 30 set
from factory is RM6000 which is only RM200 per set only.

From the marketing price that already designed and constructed the price of
production can be sell with the price of RM350 per unit. Hence the total price for 30
sets production are RM10 500.

Capital Cost Selling Price

RM6000 RM10 500
(30 sets) (30 sets)
Table 3: Capital Cost and Selling Price Table

11
The calculation of the profits:

Profit (30 sets) = RM 10 500 RM 6000

= RM 4 500

Profit (1 set) = RM 4 500 / 30

= RM 150

Percentage of profit = (RM 6 500 / RM 12 000) x 100%

= 54.17 %

From the table and calculation above, we can determine the profit of 30 set
and profit of 1 set production. The profit for 30 sets are RM 4 500 while the profit of 1
set is RM150. This value shows the production can make profit about 54.17 %.
