Target Audience Profile

Our station primarily priorities 4-11 year olds. This is due to the gap we think is in the market, we
feel like if the station bases mainly on 4-11 year old at a younger age of development children
can be educated on issues parents feel to uncomfortable to talk about. The station wants to
achieve popularity from both male and females in the age group 4-11 as they want to peak in
popularity.

The broadcast will broadcast to Lincolnshire only, as this is where smaller towns are based
therefore issues the radio will cover may not be broadcasted. It also keeps the station local
therefore, looking out for the next generation in society keeping the children of the area on track
at all measures. Making the children aware of issues of good things happening to their area and
how they can be apart of the good and keep away from the bad.

At this age group the children are not working but in education, the age is social E group as they
are not in employment, there for the station could be listened too during school times also when
the children are having free time or in class on the background. This could be an effective way
for the schools to educate their pupils on the issues that are too awkward or unformattable to
cover. Also school runs like car journeys the parents could play the radio as in the morning the
children listening will be more tired so it can wake them up getting the listeners ready for school.

The primary audiences opinion on the channel could be that they enjoy the channel as it is new,
fresh and fun. It engages their attention so when the new bulletin is presented the audience is
engaged and will listen to the news as they will want to hear more from the radio. The audience
will least likely like the advertisement however making it seasonal for example base it on
christmas this will raise excitement.

However the radio will work in a diverse way relating to all ethnicities, for example different
religions, like judaism so not only broadcasting christmas adverts but promotion for also
Hanukkah or any other cultural occasion making it diverse. The audience will also cater for male
and females 50% for each however the radio will most likely be favoured by females.

Secondary Target Audience:

The secondary target audience will be the parents listening to the radio with their children. To
include them we will also advertise to them as well. They are most likely going to be aged 25 to
50. The gender split will be 65% female and 35% male. This is because stereotypically women
are more likely to listen to the radio.
Again like the primary target audience there is not going to be a specific sexuality or ethnicity.
This is to help gain the more listeners, because if you target a specific ethnicity or sexuality then
you are closing it of to the listeners that don't fit the profile. This might be because if the parents
don't want their children to listen to the a radio station that contrasts with their beliefs. The
psychographic information of the secondary target audience will be that they like listening to
educational radio and are interested in learning new things. However, they might not like the
adverts and might be put of by some of topics being discussed. Hopefully they will have a
positive opinion on the radio broadcast.
They will be in the social class C2 and above as these are the usual social classes that have
children.
The geo-demographic information will be the UK but even smaller it will be Lincolnshire. Once
again this is similar to the primary target audience. Because it is a local broadcasting station it
will have local stories and help the local economy.
The uses and gratifications that will be used are surveillance, entertainment and social
interaction. It will be surveillance because all of the listeners will be educated/learning new
things. Entertainment comes from the idea that the listeners will enjoy listening to the broadcast
and find it entertaining. Finally social interaction will come from when the listeners talk about the
broadcast with friends and family, this therefore leads to free marketing.
