CIRCUIT CREATION AND ACTIVATION

CREATE
1. Ensure LO layer is selected

2. Select the ends of the circuit

a. Click on the first (A-end) NE
b. Middle click or CTRL-Click on the Z-
end

3. Open the map menu, Right click in open

space

4. Select the Add Bidirectional Circuit -> VC-12

option

5. Middle click (both buttons together!) to select the A end

CIRCUIT CREATION and ACTIVATION

6. Select the appropriate card, then

port in the NM_VCsel window and then
OK
The port selected will be listed
in the Circuit Constraints box

7. Repeat for the Z end

8. Select Undefined
Path and select the
next NE in the path

9. Available links will be automatically

selected if only one exists between NE

10. Select the KLM in

each link
CIRCUIT CREATION and ACTIVATION

11. If protection is to be provided, now do the other side, first select Protection then other side

Note: Clearing the protection flag resets the port

selections!
If any VC-4 is shared for a protection path,
the same KLM can be used on the shared
link.
MV38 may need to be forced to provide the
protection path by Adding an NE to the
path: note how the link fron ADM1 to UC 1
was automatically selected.

We dont want to use the same physical

path use add node to insert UC2 into the
protection path.

Note extra links in example: Select the KLM for the links:

12. Provide a name for the circuit.

CIRCUIT CREATION and ACTIVATION

Tip: the Name button can be used to fill in the A and Z end NE names, but T and P etc (from the naming
convention) need to be added manually

13. Create the circuit by clicking If the circuit has a link shared for protection in it (as the
apply example does) then the warning will be displayed.

If you are expecting this warning OK!

Note: Traffic can only be routed to VSN, not though! MV38 only
creates XX in real NE. If a circuit is created through a VSN, the
circuit will not work.

ACTIVATE
So far, the channels and ports have been reserved for the circuit but no changes have been made to the
network.

14. Find the

circuit(s)
using the
CIRCUIT CREATION and ACTIVATION

circuit find tool, select the circuit(s) and then open the activate window:

15. Activate the circuits: pay attention to the messages

Circuit Activated
Done

In this case some of the EM were set to read only

from MV36 MV38 cannot write to them!

If there is a comms problem with any element, the

same result occurs. Sometimes, one path is activated
but the other not.
