Lesson Plan

Subject: Physical Education Grade: 6 Topic: Fitness using Technology

NC Content Standards:
6.MC.2 Understand concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics that apply to the learning and performance of
movement.
6.HF.3 Understand the importance of achieving and maintaining a health-enhancing level of physical fitness

1c Students use technology to seek feedback that informs and improves their practice and to demonstrate their
learning in a variety of ways.

2a Students cultivate and manage their digital identity and reputation and are aware of the permanence of their
actions in the digital world.

2d Students manage their personal data to maintain digital privacy and security and are aware of data-collection
technology used to track their navigation online.

Objective:
Given the stopwatch, Nike training club app, IPad, QR Code reader App, Chromebook and the daily fit log, the
student will apply principles of practice and conditioning that enhance movement performance and also apply
strategies that result in the achievement of gender and age-related standards on approved fitness assessments.

Nike Training Club a free app with a variety of workouts choose a work out : get lean, get toned, get
strong, get Fit and then choose a level: beginner, intermediate, advanced
QR code QR codes are on a large dice. Each code link to a different exercise and reps

Whistle, Internet access, gym, projector and computer to use with stopwatch and Nike training club website, PE
shoes, QR Code Fitness Dice, IPad with QR code reader, Chromebooks

Description of Lesson
Activity Description of Activities and Setting Time: 60
minutes
I. Teacher directs students to line up for the 5-6 minute stretch and warm up to reduce

Review 1. Teacher demonstrates/leads simple stretch and warm up exercises 8 minutes
II. Teacher reinforces to students why they are exercising:

When whistle is blown, the class will change into their exercise positions
IV. A stopwatch will be projected on the wall to keep up with time
Guided Will do 20 minutes of Nike Training Club together as a class 10 minutes of
Practice the get lean workout and 10 minutes of the get toned workouts -- both at the
intermediate level
Eight students will be chosen (two at a time) to come up and roll the dice and
then use the IPad to scan the QR code to see which exercise the class will do
(Example of choices are jumping jacks, pushups, mountain climbers, etc.)
Students will use their Chromebook and go to their daily fit log and log their
exercise activity and check where they are based on the goals they have set

V. The teacher projects the Nike Training Club video on the screen and blows the
Exercise whistle. Students work through each 10 minute exercises for a total of 20 minutes 40 minutes

Teacher blows the whistle and chooses two students - One rolls the dice and another
Gets the IPad and scans the QR code and announces which exercise the class is to
do next and how many reps. The two students lead their classmates in the exercise.
This is repeated three more times using two different students each time.

When the exercise session is over, the teacher blows the whistle and announces it is
time to cool down and to take a minute to gently stretch. Students will then go log
their exercise in the daily fit log app on the Chromebook and change into their
regular shoes and clothes.
VI. Five minute warning bell rings - teacher informs students that five minutes is
Closure remaining and they should be changing into their cloths/shoes if they havent 5minutes
already.
