Learning Goals

Identify the organelles in plant and animal cell

Know their structure and describe their functions
Understand how organelles work together to help the cell function

Assignment Task

To investigate the different organelles structures and their functions, in

either plant or animal cell
You will choose how you will present the information from these CREATIVE
options
Perform a cell song (1-2 people)
Tourist Brochure (1-2 people)
Play (2-4 people max)
3D Model, using plasticine, foam (1-2)

1
Instructions for 3D Model

1. Choose either Plant or animal cell

Plant Cell Animal Cell

Cell Membrane Cell Membrane

Nucleus Nucleus

Cytoplasm Cytoplasm

Mitochondria Mitochondria

Golgi Apparatus Golgi Body

Endoplasmic Reticulum Endoplasmic Reticulum

Ribosome Ribosome

Cell Wall

Chloroplast

Vacuole

2. You will create a 3D model of a plant or animal cell, include all the listed
organelles for your cell.

3. You may use, any type of materials to create your model, Styrofoam,
cardboard plasticine, etc
Examples may be viewed

Use cell pictures to place the organelles in the most appropriate area of your
model

You will present your model to the class, you will describe the functions of the
organelles.

2
Visiting the Cell Travel Brochure

You will be designing a Travel Brochure that describes a plant or animal cell as
if it were a real-life attraction.

*Think of attractions like: amusement parks, ball parks, zoos, farms, malls, etc., there are
certainly more possibilities than this.

The Task:

Include a picture and describe the function of the organelles for your chosen
cell, (plant or animal) as part of a tourist attraction.

Plant Cell Animal Cell

Cell Membrane Cell Membrane

Nucleus Nucleus

Cytoplasm Cytoplasm

Mitochondria Mitochondria

Golgi Apparatus Golgi Body

Endoplasmic Reticulum Endoplasmic Reticulum

Ribosome Ribosome

Cell Wall

Chloroplast

Vacuole

The Requirements:

. Front cover includes student name, as well as the attraction that is being
used (i.e. amusement park, mall, etc.)

. An organelle picture and a real-world attraction picture should be included

for each organelle. To be presented to the class

3
. Performing a play
.
.
. Working in groups, you will perform a play which includes structure and
a description of the function of the organelles for your chosen cell, plant
or animal from the following list.
.
Plant Cell Animal Cell

Cell Membrane Cell Membrane

Nucleus Nucleus

Cytoplasm Cytoplasm

Mitochondria Mitochondria

Golgi Apparatus Golgi Body

Endoplasmic Reticulum Endoplasmic Reticulum

Ribosome Ribosome

Cell Wall

Chloroplast

Vacuole

.
. You can use props so that you look like or represent the organelles, you
can hold pictures when you mention the specific organelle. Be as
creative as possible.
. You will perform your play in front of the class.
.
.

4
. Cell Song performance

You will be performing one of three provided cell songs.

1. Choose one of the three songs below (see song lyrics to these songs on
the next few pages) see YouTube clips to get ideas

. Two main types of Cells Song

. Cell Theory Rap

. The Cell Song Song

2. Here are the specific requirements:

Song will be presented to the class

Whenever a cell organelle is mentioned in the song/rap the group must

illustrate that organelle in some way (this can be done with a hand drawn
picture or any organelle representation that creatively shows the organelle
structure).

There must be some type of background music it can be a real music or you
can make up your own beat.
