Course Description
In this course we will learn how to reason in an orderly and consistent fashion. Students
will master the rules that govern the thinking process. There will be a particular
emphasis on applying these rules to the field of Christian apologetics. The goal is to
know better how to love God with all our minds.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of Logic 1 students will:
complete daily reading assignments and submit daily self-assessments.
come to class prepared to discuss the concepts and exercises.
understand the importance of reasoning properly.
learn to discuss and debate ideas using the rules of logic.
employ the laws of thought in defense of the Christian faith.
Key Assignments
Each semester the final grade for the course will be determined through the following
types of assignments:
Class Participation: Students are expected to demonstrate their knowledge of
key concepts, and to engage in daily discussions using both the microphone and
chat during class: 25%.
Online Discussion: Some weeks, students will be responsible for actively
participating in an online discussion on a topic directly related to what we are
studying that week. This will become part of your class participation grade.
Quizzes: Review is vital. There will be weekly quizzes at the end of each week,
and sometimes short quizzes in the middle of class: 25%.
Tests: Students will demonstrate their mastery of the concepts with tests
covering each unit: 30%
Semester Exams: At the end of each semester, students will take an exam on
material covered during that semester: 20%.
