Preface
This document contains a brief description of the functions of the software and it is recommended the
software training course before starting to use it.

This guide can be changed periodically according to updates of the software.

It is forbidden to reproduce or distribute any part of the contents of this manual without prior permission
from Steel&Graphics s.r.l.
Setup
Setup
This command allows you to change and/or project parameters setting and opens the following
screen for data entry:

In Info section are visualized the information you entered during the project creation. In this section you
can modify or update them.

In the Project, Material and Treatment sections are proposed the parameters to use in realization of
2D drawing and 3D model. You can change these parameters when you edit the project.

Insert Profiles: you can use two systems, defined in the profiles database, to insert the profiles; the
first using the Gauge (drill axis), the second is the Barycentre (Barycentric profile axis).

2D Scale: this scale manages all 2D elements that are incorporated into the drawing, such as Quotas,
Tables, Marking blocks etc.

Bolts type: type of bolt used in the drawing as A type (class 5.6).

In the Marking Numbering section are proposed the starting number series of SubAssembly, Mark
and Position.

The Number is automatically updated after each marking.

If you have already realized a marking in the same drawing, the numbering of marks and positions
continues from the latest number of the previous marking.
The button Options opens the following screen:

3D Options (only for TecnoMETAL 4D)

Bolts
Store code assignment to the plates
Parameters for calculation (only for TecnoMETAL Structure Analisys)

Note: The changes made to these configurations take effect only on this drawing and new procedures
that will be realized.

The button Colors opens the following screen:

For a complete description of these commands please refer to Start Guide - Integrated Environment
Chapter.

Use the command Marking to access the following windows:

Setup is divided into SubAssembly, Marking, Position and Bolts and Nuts; you can activate or not the
elements of the marking by selecting the respective boxes.

The settings defined in this Setup will be applied to all elements of the marking on the drawing.
Sheets
This command allows you to open the following screen to choose the element to insert..

There are five types of formats (ISO and ANSI).

During the procedure you should specify the insertion point in the drawing to create the sheet; in the same
drawing can be inserted many sheets.

If you do not provide any point, press Enter to insert the sheet at the point 0,0,0.

In addition to sheet formats, the screen provides you with predefined tables and title blocks that can be
customized.

To make changes you must open only with CAD the following drawings subdirectory /LIB, the drawings
named: ISOA0.DWG, ISOA1, ISOA2 . DWG, ecc., ANSIE.DWG, ANSID.DWG e ANSIC.DWG, ecc. and in
the subdirectory /LIB/ITA the drawings named: TM_TAB1, TM_TAB2, TM_TAB3, TM_TAB4 e TM_TAB5.

These drawings must be saved in full-scale; the software inserts these blocks with the 2D Scale defined
in the Setup.

In the list of formats you can insert a fully customized sheet with the option User.

You can choose between TecnoMETAL attributies and generic created by CAD.

TecnoMETAL available attributes are as follows:

$DWGTITLE = 1. Poject Title
$DWGOBJ = 2. Project Object
$DESIGNER = 3. Designer
$REVISION = 4. Revision
$REVNAME = 5. Auditor
$DWGNOTE = 6. Project Notes
$SCALE = 7. 2D Scale
$MATPROFILE = 8. Profiles quality
$MATPLATE = 9. Plates quality
$DATA = Local Data
$ORDER = 10. Project Name of the work order
$DESCORDER = 11. Description of the work order
$CLIENT = 12. Name of the Client
$ADDRESS = 13. Address
To create an attribute, you should define a name with which to associate a description, that will replace
the attribute.

To do this you should insert the data in the file attrib.dat, located in the directory C:\Steel\TecnoMETAL
\BIN\DAT.

For example:

NOTE-01=TEST
NOTE-02=Company
NOTE-03=steel&graphics
NAME=Verona

Where Name of the attribute = Value that will be inserted

Restore snap/UCS
This command allows you to restore the OSNAP and UCS values if they have been interrupted in
macros.
Catalog
Store

This procedure allows to run the _WBLOCK command of CAD by storing the blocks in the CAT
directory of the software.

Unlike the CAD command, the storage process of TecnoMETAL is simplified and all blocks are always
stored in the same directory as defined in Setup. Are stored also the preview images (SLD files) that allow
a quick search in the block insertion with the Browse command.

This procedure requires the objects selection and the insertion point.

Browse

This procedure allows you to open the following screen with the preview images of the blocks inserted
with the previous command.

The ZOOM allows a larger visualization of the chosen detail to facilitate its recognition..
The button allows you to delete a block from the catalog.

To insert the desired block in the drawing you should select the box with the corresponding picture and
drag it with the mouse on the screen.

You should specify the insertion point and the rotation.

If you activate the option Drawing scale, will be inserted the block with the current scale of the drawing,
previously set in Setup -> Scale 2D. Otherwise you will have to specify the magnification factor; if you
press Enter, the magnification factor will be 1.
Database
This command allows you to access directly to TecnoMETAL Database.

For more information about Database please refer to Start Guide - Database Chapter.
Mechanical Database
This command allows you to access to the mechanical database of TecnoMETAL.

For more information about Database please refer to Start Guide - Database Chapter.
Profiles
Drawing
This command allows you to draw automatically 2D profiles in the various views and opens the
following screen:

Insert the name of the desired profile in the box Profile or select the button DB to visualize the list of
profiles in the database and select the desired one with a double click of the left mouse button.

Depending on the chosen profile, in Views section you will have access to the available views.
You can select the drawing options as follows:

Axis: the drawing of the axis (Barycentre) of the profile

Holes Axis: the drawing of holes axis (Gauge) of the profile

Variables Views: with a click of the left mouse button on the image, you can choose the desired view
type (inclined, calendered, etc.). The button allows you to return to the previous view.

Insert: you can choose the type of insertion between Barycentre or Gauge (drilling axis); in the boxes
TR and TR1 are proposed those inserted in database; the Gauge (drilling axis) can be changed, while
the Barycentre no.

Wordings: this command allows you to choose the type of wording that will be inserted on the drawn
profile (longitudinal views only).

The Text box is useful to add any text to the chosen wording (e.g. If you want to insert IPE 300 2M12 you
should select only the profile as wording and type 2M12 in the text box).

Below define if the profile is a Mark or a Position. The profile that will be added will already be marked:
the number and the start marking prefix is defined in Setup.

Select one of the proposed images with a click of the left mouse button. You must then specify the
insertion point, a second point for rotation/direction and the length.

If you do not provide the length press ENTER to automatically calculate the distance between the two
points.
If you select longitudinal view it is necessary select a star point and final point, press Enter to confirm or
enter a profile length.
Notching
Notching

This procedure allows you to realize processing in the profiles automatically and fast.

You should then select a profile on which you want to apply the processing, will be opened the following
window:

Select the figure of the desired processing in the list on the left; the cutting types available depend on the
type of profile which you have selected. Then type the dimensions in the active boxes below.

Select one of three numbered arrows in the right image to set the point of view. The selected arrow will
be colored in red.

In Vertex list are listed the numbers corresponding to the vertexes of the profile figure. Select the Vertex
of the profile on which realize the processing.

You can use the View section only for asymmetric profiles; to change the view, select A or B.

Confirm the data with OK and select in the drawing the insertion point.

Some dimensions can have the value = 0 if not required

Notching info
This command is similar to the previous one but, instead of running the cutting, inserts on the vertex of

the profile a symbol that is a block containing all the information of the cutting.

This procedure is used to insert the information of the cutting if it was drawn with the classic CAD
commands, so you can then generate the CAM file with the information necessary to the numerical
control machines.
Stiffeners
Stiffeners

This command allows you to insert a stiffener on a profile H and U type with any inclination.

The function performs the automatic drawing of the front view of the stiffener.

Once you have selected the profile, automatically activating the OSNAP command, will be opened the
screen for the acceptance and/or changing data of the stiffener.

The following values are proposed by default:

Air = 1
Chamfer = the radius of curvature of the profile
Thickness = web thickness

You can change them by typing the measurements you want in the boxes.

Activate the boxes Front or Back: if you choose Front the stiffener will be drawn with continuous line, if
you choose Back with a dashed line.

In the Slope section you have to choose if the stiffener is vertical, horizontal or perpendicular.

Vertical Horizontal Perpendicular

In the Insert section indicate whether the insertion point indicated in the drawing should be on the left,
center or right side of the stiffener.

Press OK and specify the insertion point of the profile on the top wire of the view; then the stiffener will
be drawn in the view.

Once you finish the drawing of the stiffener in the view, you can automatically insert the section by
indicating the insertion point in the drawing or press ENTER if you do not want the section is drawn.

Stiffeners on section

This command allows you to insert the stiffeners of H and U type profile on the section of the profile.

You should select the insertion point by activating OSNAP command on the midpoint and select the
midpoint of the web on the side where you want to insert the stiffener.

This procedure reads the name of the profile from the selected point. If in the point is not drawn the section
of the profile, the procedure will propose the list to select the profile. Click two times the left mouse button
to select the required profile.

Once you have selected the profile, will appear the screen with the name of the profile and the following
values:

Air = 1
Chamfer = the radius of curvature of the profile.
Thickness = web thickness.

Press OK to realize the drawing of the stiffener.

If you have not selected the profile, you should indicate the rotation of the stiffener
User Profile
Insert user profile

This command allows to draw the user profiles automatically and in the various views. Before activating
this command you must create a user profile with the command Insert user profile.

This command opens the following screen for selecting the view:

Profile: select the profile in the list.

Use the arrow buttons to visualize the different views of the profile and the middle button Section to
visualize the profile section.

In Position box you can define if the origin point of the profile is High, Medium or Bottom.

Once you have confirmed the data with the OK button, you have to decide the insertion point and rotation
in the drawing; in the case of side views you have to specify the length or a point to define it.

Add user profile

Draw a closed polyline that represents the form of the profile with the CAD commands.

Exemple:
If you activate the command and select the polyline and the thickness, will be opened a screen in which
save the profile with a name.

Note: User profiles are stored in the subdirectory UPROF Databases. If this subdirectory does not exist,
you have to create it.
Special Profiles
With this option you can draw tapered and alveolar profiles from a standard profile H type with
view in web. Press command open the following windows:

With a click of the left mouse button on the image or on the button you can choose the special
profile to draw between 12 different types.

Insert the name of the desired profile in the Profile box, or select the button DB to visualize the list of
profiles in the database and select the desired one with a double click of the left mouse button.

The selected profile is used to determine the thickness of flange and of web and the width of flange.

Insert in the boxes on the right the requested dimensions.

Press to insert and confirm the data and decide the insertion point in the drawing (the red point
in the image) and the direction.

Special profile available

The red points are the insertion points in the drawing.

Create object
An element drawn with TecnoMETAL(profile, plate etc.) contains the information of the object
(length, width, thickness, etc.).
This command allows you to insert into a drawing done with lines or polylines of CAD the information
about the TecnoMETAL object.

Select the object to process: Plate, Profile, Element per sq. m. or Generic.

Depending on your choice, will be activated the boxes on the right.

So type the required dimensions; in the case of profile you can access the list of profiles using the
button and select the profile with a double click of the left mouse button.

Type the data in the sections Length, Width and Thickness or use the button to indicate two points
in the drawing: the distance between the two points is the inserted value.

Press to confirm the data; you must select the lines or polylines to insert.

Note: You must store the shape name in the database.

Stretch Profile
With this command you can "stretch" the profiles. The information on length will be updated
automatically.

You are prompted to select the profile you want to lengthen or shorten, a window that must contain the
start or end of the profile view, two points whose distance between them will be added to the current
length. In addition to editing the drawing, the routine modifies any entries or marks of the profile.

Example:

Select profile S1 and then click Enter.

Select points F1 and F2 of the window.

Select points P1 and P2 (length to add).

Result
Holes
Draw holes
his procedure opens the following screen for data entry:

Insulating
This command allows the representation of the insulating material, providing the starting point,
the arrival point and the thickness.
Sum
This procedure adds numeric texts from dimensions or texts that are in the property-selection
window. It is useful to check the sum of a series of dimensions, in order to verify the correctness of the
total dimension because the partial dimensions are rounded with CAD commands.

Example:
If you define a dimensioning with a decimal, the dimensioning result would be as follows:

Se abbiamo definito la quotatura senza decimali il risultato della quotatura sar il seguente:

La quota totale incongruente con le parziali, utilizzando la procedura e selezionando con una finestra i
parziali (w) ci visualizzer la loro somma (nell'esempio sar 1000).

Nota: Si dovr quindi correggere o la quota totale o uno o pi parziali con i classici comandi del CAD
Delete groups
This command runs a cleaning of graphic database of the drawing.

It is very useful when you notice a slowdown in the use of the program; the procedure deletes all groups
that have been formed in the various operations and are no longer used.

When you create a profile, TecnoMETAL automatically generates a group composed of the profile edge,
internal lines and entries. If you cancel the profile, are deleted the entities and not the group, which
remains empty.

This command allows you to delete empty groups, greatly lightening the drawing.
Circle Center

This command automatically draws the axes of the selected circle or arc.
Lrif
This command allows you to draw a line starting from a point of reference at a indicated distance
and along a indicated direction.

Specify two points (P1 and P2) and a distance from point P1, which calculates the point P3. Specify
other points P4, P5, P6, etc. to draw a line.
Arrow

This procedure allows you to draw an arrow with curvilinear directrix.

Mid
This procedure allows you to insert the block drawing of symmetry.

Specify the insertion point and rotation; in the mid of the profile will be inserted the symbol, indicating
the higher dimension.
Snap rotate
The command allows you to rotate or align UCS, providing two points. If you activate the
command and press Enter, will return the global UCS.
Vline

This command allows you to lengthen or shorten a line keeping the inclination.

Select the line and insert a point for its prolongation (P1).

It is calculated the point P3 and lengthened the line from P2 to P3.

Dimensions
Automatic

This command allows you to insert various types of dimensioning

In this screen there are all the commands of the procedure that allows automatic dimensioning.

Auto Dim

The command searches through selection window holes (if inserted with TecnoMETAL's commands) or
markers (see. Paragraph marker)

The first section allows you to choose whether to make a selection using the option Selection or along a
line using the option Reference line; in this case are identified all holes that intersect the selected line.

The second section allows you to choose whether to select the Holes in view or the Holes in sections.
This procedure searches only the holes indicated in this option, regardless of the type of selection indicated
in the first section.

The third section can be enabled to enter the overall dimensions.

Dimension can be horizontal, vertical or aligned by activating the boxes.

Press to confirm the selection. You will be asked the type of selection (Selection window or
Reference line) and then a point where insert dimensions for each type of dimensioning activated
(Horizontal, Vertical or Aligned).
Profile 1

After selecting an upper point of the profile, this option reports the progressive dimensioning at
the bottom and the entry "profile + length" above the profile.

Select the profile, it must be a point on the upper thread (S1). The profile can be slanting.

Decimals depend on setting of CAD Unit.

Profile 2
After selecting an upper point of the profile, this option reports the entry "profile + length" above
the profile.

Select the profile, it must be a point on the upper thread (S1). The profile can be slanting.

If you want a base dimension other than 100 open the file \Steel\TecnoMETAL\BIN\DAT\Triangle.dat
and replace 100 with the desired size.
Dim P
The procedure dimensions the interior of two lines or polylines.

Specify two points (P1) (P2), dimensioning is done in the two intersections contained between these points
and the first external lines (or polylines).

The search is done for a maximum of 2000 from the point, to avoid problems in case there are no lines.

Press Enter to end the procedure.

Dim L
This command allows you to dimension the intersection of existing lines.

Specify two points (P1) and (P2) to intercept the intersection with lines or polylines, so press Enter to
end the selection of the points (several points can be defined as P1 and P2), then specify the point
where to place the dimension (P3).
Dim V

This command allows you to dimension a series of points by indicating the position and direction
of the dimension line and the vertices that enclose the space in which the dimensions will be calculated.

Frameworks

Setup

This command allows you to set the values used in the procedure; if they are not enabled, will
use the default values.

Profiles scale: allows you to set the size of the profiles drawn in plant; If the value equals 1 the profiles
are drawn in real scale, if it is greater than 1 the profiles are drawn with the size multiplied by the value set.

This procedure allows to obtain a more readable plant, normally the plants are done in scales 1:50, 1: 100
etc.. and beams would be very small, please note that this will not affect the drafting of drawings of the
beams. The inscription above the profile depends on the scale set in 2D drawing setup.

Min Th.: allows you to set minimum space that will be used by drawing dashed lines indicating the web,
with a value of 0, the lines will be drawn in real scale; If you draw on a scale of 1: 100 and the thickness
of the web is 8 mm, the lines will be distant 0.08 mm, practically overlapping.

This value is checked so that it does not exceed 50% of the width of the flange; if it exceeds the width of
the flange, is adapted to the size to avoid that protrude from the beam.

Visualize info: allows you to visualize (On) or hidden (Off) the notes relating to the type of connection
that appear at the ends of the beams.

Scheme: allows you to visualize (On) or hidden (Off) the scheme (axes) of the drawn plan.

Details: allows you to visualize (On) or hidden (Off) the drawing of profiles of connection in the
constructive drawing of the beams.
Scheme

This command allows you to draw an unifilar grid of framework and to assign numbers and
letters on the grid, that help for inserting columns and beams.

CAM
Procedure

This command allows to obtain the sketches; to process the pieces, the procedure uses CAD
functions relating to the orientation.

It is important to know the functions that allow to rotate the coordinate system (UCS).

Example of UCS orientation

Although the procedure automatically orients the reference system, the points shall be selected by the
user to ensure that the orientation will be along the axis of the length of the piece.

In the marking phase of the plates is important to define correctly which side is considered as length and
which as width.

The orientation of the piece must always be with the X direction along the length.

To verify the correct orientation of the pieces it is useful to activate the variable of AutoCAD _UCSICON
(ON or 1).
L = length
P1 = datum-point
X = datum line for the rotation
A = height
U = UCS orientation

Select the position or single mark of the piece to be treated; depending on the profile will be visualized
a screen as the following:
Depending on the type of drawing you can select the views to be processed. For some profiles there are
also alternative views.

In Info section you can see the name of the file that will be generated, the profile of the mark or the
selected position and the length of the piece.

The section Rotation allows you to define how to rotate the UCS. If you activate Entity will be selected
a line to determine the inclination of the piece and the origin point (P1 highlighted in the picture), if you
activate 1 point will be required two points to determine the inclination of the piece and the origin point (P1
highlighted in the picture), if you activate 2 points will be required two points to determine the inclination of
the piece and the origin point (P1 highlighted in the image) and a second point to determine the inclination.

In Holes section you can choose whether the search of the holes in the view must be automatic or
manually, by selecting the option Auto or Selection.

In Outline section you can choose whether the outline should be detected automatically Auto or by
selecting the outline Polyline, in this case the outline must be a closed polyline

Activate the box Chamfer to define the welds preparations.

Activate the box Scribing to define the scribing in the CAM file.

The box Bending, if present and active, allows to define the bendings in the pieces.

The box Threads, if present and active, allows to define the threads in the pieces.

The box Flanges opening, if present and active, allows to define the openings or closings of the flanges
for the angulars.

The box Milling, if present and active, allows to define the edge milling of the angulars.

In the box Rev. you can type the review of the piece that will be stored in the variable REV_DIS in CAM file.
Note: the datum-point is the red one in the figure of the piece.

In the image above you can see that in addition to drilling were realized two other types of processing:
