Main objectives: By the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
- Recognise and identify comparatives and superlatives of short adjectives
in texts
- Make sentences using the comparative or superlative of adjectives
- Read the text aloud using appropriate pronunciation

Lesson aims: - To develop and practice students speaking skills


- To improve students reading comprehension skills
- To give the students practice in their writing skills

Methods: Brainstorming, communication, explanation, role-play, exercises

1. WARM-UP Teacher greets the students and T - Ss Conversation

changes occur in the comparative
form and also in the superlative form
of those adjectives.
The teacher explains that in the
comparative form, the ending er is
added to the adjectives and in the
superlative form the ending est is
added. The teacher points out other
specific changes such as: the
adjectives big , fat, hot will double
their final consonant whereas in the
case of adjectives like funny and
happy, the final y transforms into i.
The teacher also mentions the fact
that there are also irregular adjectives
that dont follow the general rule,
such as the adjectives good or bad.
In the meantime, students will have to
pay attention and note down the rules
in their notebooks.
The teacher writes a few examples of
sentences with comparatives and
superlatives of adjectives and also
asks students to give their own
examples.

6. PRACTICE 5 The teacher asks the students to look T Ss Exercises Textbook
at the pictures of the film stars and Notebooks
then to say who they think is the Ss T
shortest/ the tallest/ the youngest/ the
oldest. Then, they have to make
complete sentences such as: I think
Nicole Kidman is shorter than Sharon
Stone. (ex. 6/112).
They will note down their answers.

in exercise. They will have to fill-in SS
the comparative form of several PT
adjectives. Ex: Cats
are..(small) than dogs.
For this activity, the students will
work in pairs. The teacher gives them
a 5 minute time limit.

7. PRODUCTION 7 The teacher draws on the board three Blackboard


basic characters: a tall thin one, a
small fat one and a normal one and T Ss
each of these figures will be given a Ss T
name. Then the students will try to
form sentences like: Joe isthan
Jim.

8 The teacher distributes handouts TP Handouts

solve the exercise. They have to write
true sentences about each character.

7. HOMEWORK For homework, students have to T - Ss Communication Handouts
