4.0 CONDUCTORS
Conductors shall be Class 2 or Class 5, stranded; plain or metal coated annealed copper
conforming to IEC 60228. Stranding shall be rope lay, flexible and conforming to IEC 60228.
Conductors shall be constructed in accordance with IEC 60092-350 and may be round,
circular, compacted or non-compacted in accordance with IEC 60228.
A copper-earthing conductor shall be provided in the cable assembly in addition to the phase
conductors (and neutral conductor if required). The size of the earthing conductor shall be a
full size conductor and shall be green or green/yellow in color.
5.0 INSULATION
Insulation for wire shall be HFEPR or HFXLPE with thickness as specified per IEC 60092-
351. Insulation thickness shall conform to IEC 60092-3
Tightly extruded over the stranded conductor
Insulation compound shall be resistant to alkalies, acids, sunlight, oil, and moisture
Free from contaminants or any porosity that is visible using no more than a five times
magnification inspection device.
Suitable for use on cables operating at a maximum conductor temperature of 85C for
continuous operation.
Suitable for use on cables operating at a maximum conductor temperature of 130C for
emergency overload conditions.
- To protect the insulation properties, cable operation in emergency overload
conditions shall not exceed 100 hours in any consecutive 12 months nor more than
500 hours total during the lifetime of the cable.
- For insulation protection, maximum conductor temperature at short circuit conditions
shall not exceed 250C in accordance with the requirements of IEC.
6.0 ARMOR
Cable shall be armored with tinned copper armor braid per IEC 60092-350 and IEC 60092-
353.
7.0 IDENTIFICATION
The outer jacket of shielded cable rated for 1 kV shall be marked with the following
minimum information:
Manufacturer
IEC designation (basic type)
Voltage Class (kV)
Number of cores
Conductor size (mm)
Insulation type
