I will check their understanding of the previous lessons because all the lessons are connected to
each other. I will show them the signs of addition, subtraction and equal and ask them what do
we call this sign? When do we use it? How?
after I ensure their understanding of the signs I will give them a group activity 1 also to check
their understanding of adding the numbers in order to move to subtraction.

Describe the activities and what the students will be doing. Consider differentiated activities.

Activity 1 (groups) Activity 2 (whole class)

I designed this activity to engage the students
and check their comprehension of the previous
lesson.
Each group will have two worksheets shaped as
fishbowl one will be with addition questions and
the other sheet with small fishes to represent
the answers by using them.
After they finish their work it will be displayed in
the math section.
I will tell them a story about subtracting zero
and all numbers by using objects to model and
illustrate it which are two different birds, nest
and five eggs.
Before I tell them the story I will check their
background knowledge e.g. What is this?what
is the color of the bird? Who did create birds?
They will say allah.
also I will link it to them in order to motivate
them, by asking do you like birds? Do you have
birds? and the most important part is to link it
to the science lesson by asking them what do
you think the bird need to live?
The short story says, there was a beautiful red
bird, she put her eggs in the nest and went to
bring them food.(lets count how many eggs did
she put?) then a green bird came and take all of
the five eggs! (how many eggs did she took?).
After that they recognize that 5-5=0
Activity 3 (individual)
in this activity the students will use their taste
and touch senses to find the answers.
Each student will have small work sheet with 2
questions and two pieces of candy.
Before starting the activity I prefer to link it to
them or to their life e.g. do you like candies? Is
it correct behavior when we eat a lot of candy?
why? What do we say before we eat?.
I will model for them, so first of all I will ask
them how many candies in our hands?, If we
take 0 how many will left?, if we eat the 2
candies how many will left?
then they will write the answers in worksheets.
Activity 4
In this part I will display the book on the data
show to solve the questions in the book . The
first question I will choose two groups to model
it by using the balls.
The next four question I will choose students to
solve it on the board and reward them by giving
points for group and gifts.
The rest of the question are independent work,
I use them as an assessment to check their
understanding of the lesson.

Consider a review of what the students did during the practice activities and ensure that all
students are assessed for learning.

In last mins of the class I will correct and grade their independent work in the book , I will use
motivational stickers for who did well and write the names of students who need extra practice.
If I have time:
I will ask them a question to make sure that they understand.
I will ask them to count the group points and see who has more points so I will reward the best
group.

because its colorful and
represent the girls
personalities, so they were
trying to behave well and make
an effort in order to get the
points to decorate the girl

Group leaders: they really
helped me in managing their
behavior because they find it
something big and valuable to
be a group leader, so they did
their job perfectly.
Count down: I think it was not
very effective and can be
dispensed with.
The bell: it was really an
effective method of stopping
the children's and the more
importance that it save my
voice.

General Comments
It was good lesson but I need to manage time for closing.
Quick quiz: it was so helpful for
me in order to know who
understand the concept and
who need more practice, but
the bad thing was that I wasted
the time in correcting the books
and the class finished so I didn't
get the opportunity to give
them the closing question.

Recommendations / future personal targets / areas of focus

In today's class my goal was to teach my first grade students the property of zero in subtraction
the zero does not effect other numbers. Moreover, if subtract two same numbers it will be zero
e.g. 3-3=0.
In this lesson I linked many areas of their personal life to the lesson and also I've connect it to their
science lesson by saying what does the birds eat?. On the other hand I tried to provide a
positive classroom environment by avoid shouting and keep encouraging and praising students,
also I displayed their work on the wall, as well as I use motivational stickers which support to
build children's elf esteem and confidence in the classroom and create positive effect on the
classroom behavior and performance especially for children's in this age.
The students were engaged and super motivated because I tried to use different learning styles
and multiple intelligences in one lesson such as visual, logical and social. In addition I designed the
candy activity to break up the monotony of regular class work, which really made them excited. I
know that they liked the activities because in the next session some of girls came and say teacher
Haya we like your math class! When you will teach us again? which really gave me positive
energy and lead me to think deeply how to make the mathematics fun for these little kids instead
of pressure on them by using only the book.
I think I achieved my goal and I had successful teaching in this class, but I think I must do better
than that and if time goes back of course I will change things, two of the things that i'm regretting
of it is the closing part and I forget to bring the small balls to model the first question in the book
but instead of that I used small circles of papers.
