Instructions for facilitator to complete/set up prior to facilitation:

If we set up immediately prior to each activity that invites chaos among

our participants.
We require All Hands on Board the entire time participants are present.
This age group (K-3) needs constant attention.
Set up of the facilitation and all activities will be completed prior to the
arrival of all the participants.
Diagrams below illustrate the setup of all three activities.
1. The goal of this facilitation is for the participants to practice and
improve their phonics skills using sights, sounds, and sports.
Objective #1: The K-3 participants will move around the world on the
circular spot markers on the basketball court and say each vowel sound
before shooting a basket.
Goal & Objective #2: Given the verbal instructions of the assistant coach, the
Objectives: K-3 participants will kick the soccer ball toward the orange traffic cone
in the goal. While kicking, assistant coach and camper say the sound of
the letter on the cone.
Objective #3: Given the verbal instructions of the leader, the K-3
participants will pass the hockey puck from one letter square to another
and blend 2 sounds together before shooting a goal.

One risk management concern is that the young K-3 participants may
struggle with vowels sounds. The participant may not be capable of
mastering this skill after the initial instructions given by the leader,
therefore not given an opportunity to shoot a basket. Leader will assist the
Risk struggling reader as he/she goes around the world and repeats each sound
Management on the circular spots.
Concerns: One risk management concern is fluctuating weather conditions. The mere
threat of a storm can cause anxiety among this K-3 age group. Leaders will
remind the anxious participant that if a storm were to occur we will quickly
go inside. If anxiety continues, another leader will sit with participant until
he/she calms down.

In the event of rain:

The basketball Around the World and floor hockey Shoot Out will be set
up indoor in a gym with minor changes.
Contingency Plan
The Soccer activity will be replaced with an Alphabet Twister activity.
